da7a7
My hard drive doesnt show up in disk utility... I tried this before with tubgirl's DVD and then I thought it might be because I had a SATA drive.. but now I am having the same problem with Jas new DVD.. I tried diskpart with id=af option and tried a FAT32 but nothing shows up. there is also a window I cant remember what it is called but it shows the hardwares and it says that I dont have a SATA device in the system.. Any ideas? Could this be the 1024 cylinder problem? because I am using windows vista and neither diskpart nor gparted would tell me if there is a problem with the partition. Please help.. I had to format my hard drive like 5 times so far and lost everything on it.. but I still want to do this. thestevo
This is most likely because your motherboard's SATA controller is not supported by install DVDs currently out. This does not necessarily mean that it is impossible to work with OS X at all. There might be a fix that would allow you to access SATA drives after installation. This would require installation to a PATA disk. After that is accomplished you may be able to clone the installation over to the SATA drive. Though this is a hassel, it is most likely your only option for right now. Â If you would like confirmation, please give your system configuration. joe75
You have to use a PATA drive with nForce4 You should know that by reading the forum Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37688-hard-drive-not-recognized/#findComment-269293 Share on other sites
thestevo
Well, now that you edited your post to include the information about your ATA controller. I would definitely say that SATA isn't happening. thestevo
Depending on your BIOS's ability to boot off of a USB drive and your USB controller chipset, it would be possible to install to an external PATA. However, nForce4 SATA is not stable. It is working to some extent but it is not stable. Seemingly random corruption occurs currently. Some day this may be corrected, but for now I would say you should forget SATA altogether (sometimes it will even lock the system.)
