Hi i was wondering how to install these new kernels on my pentium 4 2.6 gh sse2 computer currently running jas 10.4.8 sse2 combo update. What is the benefit's of these new kernels? Is it even possible to compile them for sse2? will jas be releasing a 10.4.8 sse2 dvd? If it will not work is there an alternative to the Semthex kernel that i could use?

Well, there is a Béta Combo Update from JaS (including newest SSE2 kernel) downloadable somewhere on the net. Perhaps you should wait untill the kernel is stable and JaS releases a final (easy-to-use!!!) Combo Update.

Having the newest kernel allows you to use Titan/Natit on your PC (Nvidia with QE/CI) and to run iTunes 7. Also, it's just the newest ('the best'), you know. :)

edit: Ow, and if you come from 10.4.8 with the old kernel, the new kernel will make all SSE2 10.4.8 glitches/problems dissepear.

wow, thanks, this should clear things up for me. Cant you use itunes 7 by making it a powerpc binary and copying over somthing into the intel binary or somthing? I got it working on the old kernel :D And what does a kernel do? I have heard it spoken about and i know it is the core of unix based systems but i have never figured out exactly how it works or what it does... Could you help me there?
