Hi Everybody :(

I am currently a linux user, however I wish to try out MacOS X... so I bought a MacOS X 10.4.7, and tried to install the OS... however theres a kernel panic error or some diffrent error, its always varies between the two...

the first main error (kernel panic) seems like this

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0019CFFC): commpage no match on last routine
Debugger Called: <panic>
Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 Potential args on stack)
0xb553ee0 : 0x128aea (0x3b9dcc 0xb533f04 0x130c94 0x0)
0xb553f20 : 0x19cffc (0x3bf434 0xb533f7c 0x13000 0x0)
0xb553fb0 : 0x1a1427 (0x135eff 0x1 0x7 0x0)
0xb553fd4 : 0x196b69 (0x0 0xffffffff 0x4431f8 0x49b800) Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0x0

Kernel version
Darwin Kernel Version 8.4.1: Tue Jan 3 18:23:53 PST 2006; root:xnu-792.7.90.0bj-1/RELEASE_I386

You Need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several secounds or press the Restart button

*French, German and Japanese(Or Chinese) words, probably with the same meaning*

the other, more simple error message is

System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found

I would guess that its a problem of missing file on the DVD, but how is it possible if it actually loads 50% of the times without this error? furthermore the DVD is prefectly clean, so it cant be dirt

I Would guess its a Hardware problem so heres some basic info on my OS

32Bit AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (3GHZ)

256 DDR RAM * 2

250 GB HDD

I tried to run the Same DVD file on a diffrent computer, with simular statistics (AMD Athlon XP too but its 64BIT, 2.8 GHZ and the Current OS is Windows rather then Linux on the problematic computer) installed on it and the installer worked fine so the problem is not the DVD. I though that it might be a problem with Linux-Mac dual boot collisioin so i formatted the whole computer again no luck

The problem might be in GRUB Click here if your browser does not automatically redirect you.B loader (linux boot loader that is installed automaticly and cannot be uninstalled, only overwritten by other boot loaders) however, since its not uninstall able i cannot see if its true, and i dont know how to install a diffrent boot loader without installing a full OS (which is pretty useless). so if someone might have idea's on how to test it out it would be appriciated.

I've looked around in the MacOSX86 wiki site, but I didnt understood it, it talks about SSH2-3 or something like that... so any help with this major prob(and headache) would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks in advance

Not sure where you bought a MacOSX 10.4.7 DVD. Apple doesn't sell Intel OSX DVD's yet. Maybe you got a restore DVD for a real Mac off eBay or somewhere.

But DVD's for real Mac's cannot be used on PC's. I'm surprised it even booted.

You need an OSX DVD which has been patched for running on PC's. Now, if that is what you have managed to buy somewhere, then fine.

Based on the panic message though, you either tried to install OSX for a real Mac or your processor is not capable of SSE2.

Well, I am pretty sure that the DVD is for x86 since when it boots up he says that the kernel is Darwin x86 (and from what i understood x86 is Intel/AMD supported) and also because on a diffrent computer it runs the installer just fine. maybe my processor has the SSE prob i dont know how to find out, my processor is a regular AMD AthlonXP 3000+, without any duo core or 64Bit processing... just a simple 3Ghz AMD Processor

so, presuming it doesnt support the SSE2, what should i do? is there any fix or patch to it and if so how do i get it?

oh, by the way I wanted to ask another general question. I have an really old beat up Mac(from the year 1995) and i have all sorts of programs and games for it on a cd, however the cd was ment for the old MacOS 6-9... so the question is will the CD load and will those old games and programs work

tell me about it... I've been sitting here for two days without a running OS, whating the kernel panic... i started a linux live cd only 7-8 hours ago. But im hoping that with patience and luck the problem will be solved without any useless headaches. but even in the worst case of serious unfixable problem, luckily theres other OS's. so meanwhile im hoping for the best :D

anyway, thanks for anyone who tried to help me out

AthlonXP 3000+...so, presuming it doesnt support the SSE2, what should i do? is there any fix or patch to it and if so how do i get it?

The fix is a different processor.

To verify to yourself that it is only capable of SSE and not SSE2 or SSE3 as required, go to Windows and download and run CPU-Z.

err, ok this might sound abit odd, but i dont have Window at all... only linux installation CD's (and live-cd's) so is there any way to make it on linux? (there might be a way with the terminal, from what I've seen MacOS and Linux terminal commands are rather simular in some ways) I think that i have SSE because the CPU is abit old, something like 1.5-2 years. so theres no way to run MacOS i take it...?

ok, heres the output, didnt found any SSE in it

the rest of the codes aren't existing in linux

Look, you are doing this for yourself. I have already verified for me that your processor is not sufficient for OSX. Some of those "codes" are apps that need to be downloaded and I gave you some links to get them.

hwinfo, lspci and x86info should all be available on Linux. lspci is used all the time for getting vendor and device ids. The others require a download.

I am not coming to your house to prove to you that you need a newer processor to run OSX.

I know that they are downloadable program. And i didnt ment to disrespect or anything like that, and im sorry if you think i do disrespect you,I know im doing this for myself its just that I dont have actuall running OS to install on, only Linux live-cd's that dont have these programs... and unfortunatly I lack the time to install a running OS localy due to lack of time to do so, hence i cannot do this tests with the programs.

so anyway, from what I understood MacOS wont work for me unless I change my CPU into SSE 2+. ok, then I guess I'll go back to linux once I'll get some free time

Thanks for the help Rammjet
