Hi all!

I just don't get it anymore.

I have a working installation with JAS 10.4.8 SSE3 reseed.

With working I mean video , lan , audio, about this mac etc

I just have to boot with the -f option

Now I just want to update the kernel to semtex b8.

I used several scripts (prasys) , downloaded it manualy ... no luck

The problem is that I can't boot with the new kernel.

After loading the kexts my pc just reboots.

Options like -s -f -x etc do not work.

Repairing permissions from terminal , from boot dvd etc don't help either

Did I forgot something? An upgrade?

Can someone help me out ?

Thanks

If you haven't deleted them, you should be able to boot using copies of the old kernels.

At boot, press F8 and type: mach_kernel.old

or type: mach_kernel.4

Once booted, go to Terminal and type:

sudo cp -f /mach_kernel /mach_kernel.bad
sudo cp -f /mach_kernel.old /mach_kernel	<--- use name of kernel you actually
										   - booted for first parameter
sudo chown root:wheel /mach_kernel*

Thanks Rammjet (again :D )

But the point is ... it works with the "old kernel" but not with the new one.

I can't find an answer why it doesn't work with the semtex b8 kernel.

Is it so different than the "old" kernel ?

To upgrade to the new kernel, you also need to install the Apple Combo updater to 10.4.8 and reinstall a couple of kexts to get things working.

The point being that you need to have the kernel and the compatible system files, not a combination of the new kernel with old files... that may be your problem.

There was a guide floating around somewhere here, so try a search... or alternatively download the updated DVD installer from the usual place... (don't ask me, I'm just passing through... ;-)

Ciao...

i just wonder if it still failed even you have try to boot with -s

are you sure you're going to use Semthex B8 kernel?

all i heard is pc will keeps rebooting if you are try to use Mifki or DaemonES without NX/HPET enabled in BIOS

All Semthex should work without it
