I recently realized that another computer of mine had SSE3, and I knew this was better for OSX86, so I installed my 10.4.6 JaS DVD (dual booting with Windows, bootmagic) on it. When I try booting into OS X, I get a screen of text saying things like "kernel panic", "double panic", and others. I've been trying to figure out why Darwin is crashing. I installed "10.4.6 Combo Update", and "Intel SSE3 Patch". Is there something else I need? I have a Pentium 4 530 Prescott.

I came across this thread and believe I have the same problem David is having.

I managed to get a high res picture of the error. I don't know if it's the same as David's, but I think it is or at least very close to it. NOTE: Picture is high-res and very large in size.

I have the same CPU as David on a Dell Dimension 4700. This guy in the wiki reported success with the SSE2 package. I installed the SSE3 package and maybe that's the problem.

That's the exact same error I was getting! Thanks for snapping a picture, I couldn't manage to get a good one (by the way, you could've used -v to display that without the screen fading away :(). I have HT off, and I can't seem to figure out why it's happening. I did install the SSE3 Package and not the SSE2.

I have good news for you. I was able to get it working by installing SSE2 instead of SSE3.

I did some searching in the forums and it seems many people have had the same problem.

May I ask what your exact system specifications are? I am especially interested in your motherboard and BIOS build. It wouldn't surprise me at all if a cheap motherboard, such as the one in my Dell made by Foxconn, could be causing the problem.

Ok, I installed it with the SSE2 patch. It doesn't recognize my Broadcom Networking Card (which is fine, I'll get it to work eventually). OS X doesn't recognize the CPU as an SSE3 CPU (only SSE and SSE2), which is rather strange. My computer is a Dimension 8400. I may switch back to using my Optiplex for this, seeing as the only point of using this computer was for SSE3.

I noticed the same thing. It must be our Dell motherboards  .
