skamoogle
i'm having a bit of an issue in regards to JaS 10.4.8 install dvd; I sucessfully managed to install everything properly (i think), with the patches i needed (after having to disable wireless networking in the bios before install, or it would lock up). so now, i've booted into Mac OSX, i see the grey loading screen, then when it goes to load what i assume to be the continuum of the install, it displays a black screen, white bar across the bottom, and the cursor is present (not locked up, can be moved around). the machine finishes loading what it had to, and the screen is still black. any ideas? system specs: brand new dell inspiron 6400 - intel duo core 1.6ghz (SS2 enabled, installed with os x) - 1GB (2x512mb pc3200 sdram) - 80GB hitachi SATA - intel on-board graphics - intel on-board wireless - sigmatel on-board sound Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35734-video-issue/ Share on other sites

skamoogle
I've been working at it for some time now, booted into safe mode - I had desktop, "loading" screen, then onto the "welcome to" set-up screens. Followed through those to the network set-up, finshed, and then i let it sit for about an hour. the mouse cursor indicated it was functioning, but nothing was happening over IDE Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35734-video-issue/#findComment-254358 Share on other sites

He hasn't published one yet. Nor one with both Broadcom and Wireless. He did publish a 10.4.8 Intel SSE2 Update package, not a DVD. There were two JaS 10.4.8 DVD's. The first was corrupt and pulled. But some other people posted it anyway. For most people, this DVD is bad news. It looks like this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=6331 The good DVD was posted as a 10.4.8 "reseed". It looks like the posting I made previously. I believe I heard of another DVD that might have JaS name on it but he didn't publish it. Wouldn't trust it. For the correct name of the "good" DVD, follow the 10.4.8 link in my signature. skamoogle
I was able to finish configuration, and get desktop under safe mode. when I plugged in my ethernet it returned to the same locked up, trying to compute state as before. However, the DVDISO i downloaded was infact the reseed, although i picked it up from a rather shady torrent source Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35734-video-issue/#findComment-254371 Share on other sites
Thico Alves
Sorry for the stupid question, but Intel Core Duo don't have SSE3 instructions? So why are you using SSE2 patch?? skamoogle
It appears as though it wasn't, and upon downloading the "legit" seeded copy, I ran into the same issue. Using my Microsoft trained (and employed!) background, I opened my Visual Basic terminal, and low and behold its SSE3 and not SSE2 (despite what websites say regarding this processor). That brought me a little closer to the prize. So, I investigated further, to find out the intel video driver supplied wouldn't support my card (causing the white bar), I developed some drivers, and all seems to be well now.
