Hi guys,

I'm actually loving my hackintosh. I got the 10.4.8 by semthex (Semthex 10.4.8 TEST1 DVD) with ALL MY HARDWARE working since 10.4.4, including USB, printer, audio etc... the only problem was video! I have a NVidia GeForce4 MX 4000 128MB DDR card and don't know what to do to get QE/CI working with this. First, I was using the MacVidia drivers and was totally satisfied with that for changing resolutions...but now I have to use some programs that needs video acceleration (like iWork '06). I then heared about Titan and Natit kexts. Try installing it by all imaginated forms, I even tried the automatic Natit installer, and all the times it give me the same error: when I'm booting, it boots corretly (titan/natit identify correctly my video card), but in the end, I can't see any GUI... it stops showing the message "loginwindow[55] Can't obtain screen configuration from server"... It cost to me several formats losing all my data. I don't know what I have to do anymore, just don't want to format my HFS partition again... someone here know a way to have QE/CI working with this NVidia card? I really want to have it! Thanks a LOT :rolleyes:

hehh..that one was the first that I tried... but I want to test it again, maybe I made something wrong...

Just 2 more questions before I start: Should I really use NVDANV10Hal.kext or NVDANV20Hal.kext?? Because on the explanation you said NVDANV20Hal.kext for 4xxx cards, and mine is MX4000.

And how can I disable MacVidia drivers? Just delete/move them out of the Extensions folder?? I have the 1.0.7 working (don't know why 1.0.8 didn't work with my 10.4.8 OS) and it just have 2 kexts: NVDriver.kext and NVidia.kext

yup, I think you're right... I did EXACTLY what Rammjet said and what I get was:

kextd[30]: kld_load_from_memory() failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/NVDANV10Hal.kext/Contents/MacOS/NVDANV10Hal

a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/NVDANV10Hal.kext

now I need to enter in single user mode to get things working again (hope so)... :rolleyes:

thanks for all support guys!

YESSS! =D got my macOS back by installing "by hand" the MacVidia 1.0.7 driver at single user mode boot option!! No format was needed! Ufshhh :rolleyes: .. but what I really wanted was a real CI/QE enabled.... I think that I will buy a cheap Fx5200 because I don't have any other alternative. Do you GARANTEE that it will work using natit/titan??

thanks! =D

Are you saying that 1.07 driver also works with 8.8.1 kernel? Did you try 1.08 too (latest macvidia driver)?

Thanks

Fernando

Sorry, I thought that you could be brazilian because of the name, then I wrote in portuguese, it's easier. If you aren't, then here is my answer:

I tried to install MacVidia 1.0.8 twice on 8.8.1 kernel, but was unsuccessfull. The drivers seems to doesn't "load" or something like that. So I had to format my HFS partition...But the 1.0.7 I got running fine, and it's easy to install (not so easy as 1.0.8 with installer, of course). If you get any problems, just ask me

In Portuguese: Quase acertou! Estou do outro lado do Atlântico, em Portugal! Obrigado, respondeu à minha dúvida. O 1.08 também não funciona comigo. Vou tentar o 1.07...

In English: You almost got it! I'm on the other side of the Atlantic, in Portugal! Thanks, you have clarified my doubt. Version 1.08 doens't work with me either. I'll try 1.07...

Flw!

PS: Is better to keep our messages in english, or the moderators will be sad with us :rolleyes:

PS2: Fernando, I saw your post in the MacVidia forum. I was wondering if np_ is about to realease a GL working version of his drivers...how far is he from that? And did you get 1.07 working on your machine?

Edited by Thico Alves

But Thico, I`ve had the same problems that you have. Are you sure that Titan/Natit doesn`t work? If your graphics card has pixel shader and/or vertex shader I believe that you can make it work. The key for me is disabling AGPGart, before that nothing woked...

Even if you haven`t pixe/vertex shader, I think that at least Core Image works... I recommend you to keep trying... you may get surprised...

See ya!

I tried two more times right now! Nothing... Look what I tried to do:

*got the latest semthex kernel (just in case I'm not "totally" updated)

*removed AGPGart

*Put my Device ID on NVDANV10Hal.kext (it seems that's the correct kext for me), NVDAResman and GeForce

*Changed the aperture offset of the screen on Titan.kext - I tried first with 0 (default) and it didn't work, so I tried with 131072 (equals to 0x20000)

*Set all permissions etc etc etc

IT DIDN'T WORK! .... So I tried again, but this time installing all NVDANVxxHal.kext and putting my DeviceID on all. Result: Same error... I was looking into my boot log and discovered that really the NVDANV10Hal.kext is the correct kext for my video card, but it's not loading properly... The other kexts can load fine, even the Titan detects my card correctly, but the NVDANV10Hal.kext causes a load error, and I think that this is the problem! The error is reported as:

kextd[30]: kld_load_from_memory() failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/NVDANV10Hal.kext/Contents/MacOS/NVDANV10Hal

a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/NVDANV10Hal.kext

If we manage to fix this kext to make it load correctly, maybe Titan will be abble to load old GeForce cards, like mine and MX440 64MB and even oldests...

hmm... I think that I will give up with this stupid old GeForce and go to buy a new one... It's impossible to make it works with natit/titan, I've tried everything! What card do you recomend for me to buy (my PC only have AGP slot)?? Wich one works great with titan and runs MacOS smoothly??

THANkS =D

try booting in single user mode and do this:

kextload -t /System/Library/Extension/NVDANV10HAL.kext

where does it complain?

Hi Fernando! You got MacVidia 1.07 working on your 8.8.1 kernel? About my card, I'm really buying a new one! But I tried what you said too and I got the same error. the -t parameter didn't show me much. . . :hysterical:

Hi!

yes, 1.07 works with kernel 8.8.1!

Too bad you didn't make it with the older card.

nice! So really the 1.08 is having compatibility problems with 8.8.1 that 1.07 don't have.... but I feel the 1.07 kind slower than MacOS 10.4.7 with 1.08.. .did you feel the same?
