martin_s
Hi I just tried to install 10.4.6 (myz) on a PIV 1.7Ghz (Willamette). I can see the gray Apple logo but then nothing happens. When I start with -v option it stops at the line "using 2621 buffer headers and 2621 cluster IO buffer headers" Any ideas? Thank you in advance (and sorry for my English Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35113-installation-doesnt-start/ Share on other sites
Rammjet
Try putting your hard drive and DVD drive on the same cable. Set the hard drive to master and the DVD drive to slave using jumprs, not cable select. If that doesn't work, use VMWare to install OSX to your hard drive. After installation, OSX won't need VMWare to run. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=11314 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35113-installation-doesnt-start/#findComment-249320 Share on other sites
martin_s
Thank you The hint with the IDE Cable didn't work - I'll try it with VMWare now Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35113-installation-doesnt-start/#findComment-249334 Share on other sites
martin_s
Thank you so much! Installation seems to start now in VMWare (okay, DVD access seems to be slow, but it works ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35113-installation-doesnt-start/#findComment-249363 Share on other sites
martin_s
Ohh no. Installation worked for a few minutes but then I got an error (see attachment) It's German but I added English descriptions to the screenshot. Maybe burning the image again will help - I'm not sure?? (does it matter whether I use a DVD-R or a DVD+R?) Rammjet
Yes, try burning at the slowest speed possible. If you have different media brands or types, try them too. martin_s
Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow. I'm too frustrated now Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35113-installation-doesnt-start/#findComment-249420 Share on other sites
martin_s
Ehrm, another question about the error message I described a few posts ago: DVD Check didn't fail, the error occured during the installation of the base system. Does it make sense to burn a new DVD anyway? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35113-installation-doesnt-start/#findComment-249449 Share on other sites
