This thread is from October 2005!!!

So no actual information in here!!!

<snip>

Hi,

finally made it running fast and stabile :)

My setup:

- Athlon Venice

- MSI K8N NEO4

chipset Nforce4

Sound AC97 (ALC850)

- PCIe GF6600 GT resolution 1280x1024

- Burning via LG GSA 4160b (fully supported and accepted by the system)

//^nope stop it, correcting :) , not fully accepted. Video-DVDs does NOT work. !! Data is fine.

What I needed to do:

Sound needed kext tweak to work

graphic needed Bootoption 1280x1042x32 without the mhz

graphic card displayed as geForce 6600gt after kext fix

bootup with osx86 option to ensure proper shutdown and restart

Now I have a dual boot Disk1 with XP on Disk1 Part1, and OSX on Disk2 Part1. Both via XP Bootmanager and

chain0 workaround. Only thing missing now 4me is full 3d acceleation and dual monitor support (lol)

Well, actually I am happy with what I have. Good luck to all of you, too ;)

Congratulations!

What does it say in System Profiler about QE and CI?

Thanks ;)

I am just about to see what happens, when I'm enabling Quartz. by now, both (CI and QE) are not supported.

Well let's see, will be back in 30 minutes (If not, call the police :lol)

I keep my fingers crossed for you, buddy! :)

hey Sudar,

this must have been worked a bit :D

Ok, first the bad news: No Quartz. (Well I expected that, but never give up hoping :) )

The good news is, now that I banned the AppleIntel830.kext to my Desktop, I can notice a performance plus of 20%. :) When I start the Flurry screensaver, it still runs sluggish, but in the preview Window it is smooth, and all Apps are floating out very very fast and smooth with the genie effect.

I also installed Office, StuffIt Deluxe and CocktailTE. Starting Word takes exactly 7 Seconds. ;)

I think the Graphic seems to be faster, because removing the .kext file seems to speed up the system.

Did you also modify the kext to gain DMA on your disks?

You can increase performance.

@macgirl:

Thanks for the hint! No i didnt. Will immediate do a search on this :)

By now, I am still totally flashed by what is going on...

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a Geforce 6400 Go, wanted to change the resolution to 1280x800. I tried to edit ...boot.plist but it won't work. I added

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Boot Graphics</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string></string>

<key>Quiet Boot</key>

<string>No</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>8</string>

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280x800x32</string>

</dict>

</plist>

Is this wrong?

What have you fixed in kext to recognize it as a geforce 6600?

xtraa - I have the same mother board as you, did you manage to get networking working?

No, unfortunately, the onboard lan is not supported now. I use my old realtek card wich works pretty fine. :(

  • 3 weeks later...

i have a venice and 6600GT pci-x. typing graphics mode to 1280x1024 doesnt change anything. i followed ur method. in system preferences > display, the resolution only showing 1024x768. any hints?

i'm using LCD anyway but i hope it's not related.

i'm also not getting any pics displayed in my Preview. how'd u get Preview to run ok? i've already checked the "open with rosetta". my Preview can't display pix, but it can display PDF.

DVD wise, i use VLC to watch movies. it worked quite well. my ethernet didn't work either. then i used my old D-Link (8139 card) for LAN. it worked great.

Hi, to change the display mode i used the command (or lets say program) "vi" in the terminal and then add the line to the com.apple.boot.plist in your ~/library/Preferences/systemConfiguration/ Folder. Set <key>Graphics Mode</key> and <string>1280x1024x32</string> in the next line. This must really work ;)

To edit in "vi" type shift followed by pressing the "a" key. After editing hit esc and two times shift+z

To the Preview issue - same here. I had to copy the new version from out of the installer package of the 10.4.3 DVD, to get it working.

Hope that helps :)

great. i actually tried your method. but it didn't work before. but that was when i used vmware image as my installation basis. now i'm installing from release1 dvd and putting the lines on the boot.plist.

thanks mate

Sorry mate, for the late answer, i lost this thread out of my eyes :D

Ok, my benchmarks has been already the same than yours.

But today, i noticed a good performance plus, because I removed lots of .kext files and I tweaked some kexts. That boosts me up to 70... hm :) this is remarkable, because the upgrade to 8F1111a normally costs about 20 points, on all systems. Now it is even faster than before. :D

blerofont, this thread is older than the rediscovery of generation x :D

Depending on your OS X version, I would go for the Titan.kext and check if your card

runs with it. This thread was started october 2005 and is about OS X version 10.4.1.

Cheers :)
