mathis
Hey! I finally managed to boot my JaS 10.4.8 Installation, but I only get as far as loading the kext files. Afterwards, I get a blank screen if I boot in Verbose mode or the Gray Apple logo without spinning wheel. Until now, I tried the kernel included in JaS' dvd, the newest semthex kernel and even the mifki kernel. Using the mifki kernel, my system just reboots after loading the kext files. I have no idea right now what to do?! Thanks in advance, Mathis JFYI: Booting the dvd with rd=disk0s2 boots up just fine, so I think it is some .kext that is troubling here. Rammjet
A blank screen in verbose (-v) mode? Wow. Use the latest Semthex kernel. Try booting -v -f. Also, let us know the specifics of your computer. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34740-1048-blank-screen/#findComment-246534 Share on other sites
mathis
Yip, blank screen in verbose mode after kext loading (I see them scrolling) Pretty strange. System specs: Mainboard ECS 915P-A revision 1.2 CPU Intel Celeron D something about 2.5 GHz, SSE3 capable GeForce 7300GS Harddrive connected to P-ATA (Intel ICH6 IIRC) ATM I'm reinstalling OS X to make sure I have a clean install. Then I'll try to extract the Installation DVD's .mkext file, because I suspect some .kext to be malicious. Rammjet
What packages did you choose in the Customize window? Try only the Combo update and Intel SSE3 Semthex. mathis
Actually my previous Installation went no good, so now I'm again chosing which software to install. Sure, I'll only select *one* kernel, the Semthex one. I don't see a combo update, so I'll just install the kernel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34740-1048-blank-screen/#findComment-246558 Share on other sites
Rammjet
The Combo update is the first thing to choose right above the kernels. If you don't choose the Combo update, you are running 10.4.4 not 10.4.8. And this can cause many problems with the new kernel. mathis
I have *way* less options to chose, just 2 kernels, via.ata, intel gma and soundblaster fixes. But it's definitely 10.4.8, cause it also says JaS OS 10.4.8 May this be the corrupted ISO? Cause I also have to prepare my partition with an older Install DVD to make it bootable Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34740-1048-blank-screen/#findComment-246563 Share on other sites

Other people posted it, but it is no good. You want the 10.4.8 reseed posted Nov 3, 2006 Bad/corrupt iso (sorta - I deleted the real bad iso, but this is fairly representative of it): Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34740-1048-blank-screen/#findComment-246565 Share on other sites
mathis
Bad iso: Right, I got the bad iso. Is there any way to convert an installation done by the bad iso into a working? what exactly was bad on the old iso? I also have the AMD version of the ISO, but it keeps on kernel panic'ing when it's trying to init launchd, so I think it's quite AMD specific Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34740-1048-blank-screen/#findComment-246569 Share on other sites
Rammjet
Is there any way to convert an installation done by the bad iso into a working? what exactly was bad on the old iso? Not really. It is bad because it was corrupt although some people could install it and fix minor problems. For others it was so corrupt that nothing would fix it. Plus JaS tried some experiments in setting up the iso. Afterward he chucked the whole thing and built a new one. Okay, this thing indeed seems to be *really* corrupted. I now replaced every kext with the working ones from the installation dvd's mkext, but it is still not loading. So, I'll now download the reseed. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34740-1048-blank-screen/#findComment-246586 Share on other sites
