fofusion
Hey guys. Lovely forum here. got lots of useful information. Before I get flamed into the ground I've searched but every response to those topics either give things i'm already doing or completely different answers. My pc spec is: AMD64 3500+ 1Gb Corsair Ram (good stuff) 250gb Sata (with windows etc on it) 80gb ata drive in a hdd enclosure setup using usb2 (the one im using for osx) Geforce 5200 128mb (yes its {censored} but i just bought it recently cos my fx5700 ultra was too noisy so i opted for one without a fan) Err im sure theres no other useful specs i can give you. Well i want to run os X natively on my usb2 hard drive. So I'm not using vmware - last time i tried it out it was too slow so i got bored and left it. Plus now I'm more interested in giving it a spin. I have edited the boot.ini file so that i can boot to the mac os. If the external drive is unplugged i get chain0 error (or something similar) but if I turn on the drive all goes ggreat looks like it will work then i get the dammn restart error: You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button. and this is repeated in 3 other languages. I've tried to boot with the -x thing and the -f but i get nowhere. If i try to use -v it loads all the {censored} on screen but it freezes and the last thing it says is: kdp_poll: no debugger device I leave it for a few mins and it does nothing. I hate to post on here like a complete idiot but I really dont know what to do - I'm so close its very frustrating that I cant get it to boot. Thanks for your time, have a great day! macgirl
Well using a USB drive maybe make your installation runs very slow, why don't you attach the hard disk directly on an IDE channel. Yeah, your specs are fine, but the most important thing is missed, which chipset? fofusion
Thank you very much for the reply. Removing the drive would be great but one of the screws is broken so i cant get into it without running the risk of damaging the enclosure or the drive itself. I'll see if I can get another hard drive from somewhere. As for chipset I have the NVIDIA nForce 3. I'll try find another drive so that I can fit it internally. Thanks for your response ;-) its much appreciated Barry Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/3426-help/#findComment-24868 Share on other sites
macgirl
nForce chipset has good performance with recompiled kext, if you manage to install on an ATA HD it will perform good.
