monkeyhelper
I've installed the 10.4.6 HotIso and have a working OS X, however like many people I have had problems configuring audio. I think my case seems different from many other people on the forum though ... My line-in (i.e. mic) works but my speaker/headphone jack doesn't work ! I can see the PC97 device in the sound controls and I can move the volume control up and down with no effect. The vendor/product details are 8086 266e which matches the AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext Info.plist file. I've tested the mic/headphone ports on the latop and no sound come out of those. I've also tried changing the 44Mhz/48Mhz sample rate with no effect. My questions are : 1. Has anybody else seen this behaviour/found a solution (searching on the forum seems to indicate not) ? 2. Is there anything else I should be trying ? 3. Are there any good posts/articles for hacking audio drivers for OS X (I'm a dab hand with Linux so with a little bit of help I might be able to work this out) ? The laptop is a Compaq Presario B1805. My chipset details are (from various tools !) : 0000:00:1e.2 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 04) 0000:00:1e.2 0401: 8086:266e (rev 04) Bus 0, Device 30, Function 2 Intel 82801FBM ICH6-M - AC'97 Audio Controller [b-2] ------------- Sound Devices ------------- Description: Realtek AC97 Audio Default Sound Playback: Yes Default Voice Playback: Yes Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_309A103C&REV_04 Manufacturer ID: 1 Product ID: 100 Type: WDM Driver Name: ALCXWDM.SYS Driver Version: 5.10.0000.5830 (English) Driver Attributes: Final Retail WHQL Logo'd: n/a Date and Size: 4/19/2005 04:40:52, 2317504 bytes Other Files: Driver Provider: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Rammjet
There are two chips involved in audio - the codec chip and the controller chip. You have plenty of data and the vendor/device ids of the controller chip above. But you need to work on the codec chip - it will be something like Realtek 882 or Sigmatel 9200 or Soundmax 1981. To see how to find that info for a Realtek codec chip, go to the following guide and first read the Appendix http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?s=...st&p=121883 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29288-unusual-sound-configuration-problem/#findComment-202410 Share on other sites
