Diacratical
I used Speccy to bring up all of my specs and then saved it into a text file... goodguess
What did you attempt to do so far? Take out some RAM, SATA = AHCI, USB Legacy disabled, and tried with Nawcom´s Mod CD? Can you use a dedicated HDD for OSX? Check your components with the GParted live CD and its Hardware analyzer for the kexts you may need. After all, a Intel H57 chipset should no be that hard to set up. Is your board like this? http://bizsupport1.a...rodTypeId=12454 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/275209-what-distro-do-i-need/#findComment-1790532 Share on other sites

I'm new to this stuff and didn't know I'd need to look into all the hardware compatibility, spec's etc. Basically, all I've done so far is download a version of iATKOS s3 (Which I don't even know works) Stuck it in the disc tray and tried to boot. Got as far as the apple logo and then it restarts the computer, and get's stuck in that loop. goodguess
Try with Nawcom or ##### and a retail disk from the Apple store. Nawcom´s Mod CD is here: http://www.multiupload.com/17ROM1PZBE ##### is on tonymacx86´s site: http://www.tonymacx86.com/index.php Its not urgent to know all "Mac" components from the beginning. A basic Snow Leo setup with a 1024x768 screen should be feasable. Be sure to set SATA to AHCI, USB Legacy Off in BIOS, take out your RAM except for 4GB and press F5 when the bootloader is through and you inserted the OSX DVD. (The RAM can be put back, as OSX is running.) Look at AppliArts´s guide, the basic procedures are always the same: http://www.osx86.net...x-10-6-amd.html But you dont need Legacy Kernels, of course. Good luck! If you got the white screen with the grey Apple, you got Kernel panic. Boot with -v from the bootloader, take a picture of the error or write down the last lines. Someone may know a workaround already. Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/275209-what-distro-do-i-need/#findComment-1790682 Share on other sites
Diacratical
Thanks man, will burn it all off and give it a go when I get home to my computer! If you come back here and see this, do you happen to know if I can upgrade to Lion through Snow leapord once it's succesfully installed? goodguess
Not sure about "upgrading" to Lion, there is xMove at Tonymac´s, but I did not try. I had Lion on my backup HDD for a look, but did not keep it for several reasons. ##### and a Lion DVD/USB would be the way to go, I guess. You will need a working Mac (emulator) to create the installer. Best have 2 or 3 SATAs for OSX. As SL is running, be sure to backup with CCC, before messing things up. One of the drives can be used for the ##### installation if Lion is a "must have" for you.
