I have a Radeon X850 GTO PCIe card in my box. I installed OSX and cannot select resolution or anything form the System Prefrences screen. I have seen the 9700 patch but I don't have the 9700 install files on my 10.4.7 DVD.

Also, is there a step-by-step instuction anywhere to the 9700 install + patch? I can't seem to find the 9700 patch anywhere..

Thanks in advance!

Stephen

So I edited the ATIRadeon9700.kext to add my device I.D. to the list, but now when I try to boot it freezes on the gray screen with the apple in the middle. I have a feeling it has something to do with the video card....Radeon X800GTO PCIe. What else do I have to do to get this to work?

Thanks,

Stephen

I have a feeling it has something to do with a certain person.

The key is going to involve installing the Callisto drivers and the Koverg patch. I gave you the link to the Callisto drivers. But there are several versions and the different versions seem to work better with different cards. Hence I told you to search and find what other users did.

The solution is not as simple as adding your id to the 9700 kext. Which, by the way, has to be done correctly. You need to repair permissions on the kext so that it can load correctly and not screw up your system (which is probably your booting problem). You also have to reset the kext cache so the system even recognizes that the kext contains new information. You should discover the correct way to do this when you do your search and when you follow the instructions for installing the Callisto drivers.

Oh I know that I have no clue what I am doing. I feel like going and buying a Mac this is such a pain in the ass. But at least I got the resolution I wanted with just the boot options. I think I'm almost there...it just sucks that everytime I mess up I have to reinstall OSX
