Dell Inspiron 6000 fully functional hackintosh with QE

This is a fairly easy laptop to hackintosh, but I kept having problems with kexts installing poorly. For example the seatbelt kext would sometimes, just not work. So, I came up with the following method of installation. It does require that you already have a functioning hackintosh or Macintosh and that you have a way to connect your Dell's hard drive as an external hard drive. All your kexts will install perfectly, it is an easy way to update to 10.5.8 and it is a much faster method of installation.

I booted up my Dell GX280 hackintosh and used a nifty little cable that I bought on eBay to connect my Inspirion's Hard drive as an external hard drive. Everything that follows is done from the GX280, but the Inspirion's HD is selected as the drive that software is installed to. This is vital, you will brick your already functioning hackintosh if you do not select the Inspirion's HD to install onto.

First partition the Inspirion's HD using Disk Utility, be certain to select GUID partition table under Options.

I found that it really speeds things up to have a disk image of iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 (Final) mounted on my desktop. You don't have to boot off the iPC disk! Just run the iPC installer, be certain to select your Inspiron's HD as the drive that will be installed on.

Press the customize button and check only the iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System box.

Let it install.

Download MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.pkg from Apple's website. Run it to update your Inspiron's HD to 10.5.8. Be certain to select your Inspiron's HD as the drive that will be installed on.

Open your Inspiron's HD and go to System/Library/Extensions, highlight every thing in your extensions folder, hit file and label everything yellow.

Go back to the iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 (Final) and run the installer.

Press the customize button and un-check the iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System box.

Check the following selections:

• 9.5.0 voodoo kernel

• Intel GMA900

• Intel ICHx SATA Drivers

• AC97 Audio

• AppleBCM440XEthernet

• AppleACPIBatteryManager

• Clamshell Display support

• ACAPI Fix

• Firewire Mount

• Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5

• Shutdown/Restart Fix

• PS/2 Keyboard Fix

Be certain to select your Inspiron's HD as the drive that will be installed on.

After the installation is done, open your Inspiron's HD and go to System/Library/Extensions.

Throw away anything that is not labeled yellow.

Also throw away any folders, the only exception is the cache folder. Do not throw away the cache folder.

Now you are going to repeat the last installation. Go back to the iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 (Final) and run the installer.

Press the customize button and un-check the iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System box.

Check the following selections:

• 9.5.0 voodoo kernel

• Intel GMA900

• Intel ICHx SATA Drivers

• AC97 Audio

• AppleBCM440XEthernet

• AppleACPIBatteryManager

• Clamshell Display support

• ACAPI Fix

• Firewire Mount

• Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5

• Shutdown/Restart Fix

• PS/2 Keyboard Fix

I would also install kext helper, OSx86 tools, Perenian and Pacifist.

Be certain to select your Inspiron's HD as the drive that will be installed on.

And, you are just about done. Put the hard drive back into your Inspiron and start it up, use the "-f" flag the first time.

Fix the Wireless card

Install the attached VoodooIntel2200BG.kext using Kext Helper.

This is the Project Camphor VoodooIntel2200BG.kext. You can download it here: http://projectcamphor.mercurysquad.com/downloads/. It has to have its info.plist edited to work properly. The attached kext has already been edited. If you want to edit the plist yourself, see the instructions here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=266904

Edit: This card is awful. It disconnects periodically and some times just won't configure. After using it for awhile I found a compatible wireless card and replaced it.

Fix the SD card reader

Install the attached IOSDHCIBlockDevice.kext using Kext Helper.

This is the Darwin SDHCI Driver for JMicron Devices. You can also download it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/osxsdhci/f...ockDevice.kext/

That should do it. Everything should work. You can use Software Update to update. I don't update to the newest Quicktime or iTunes, they just seem to crash.
