kungfuafrican
I have an sb live external usb installed and i'm using 10.4.6 (with sb usb patch applied after installation via pkg from dvd iso). The sound card works and sounds great (I'm using the optical out) but I have no volume control, on the card itself nor in osx system preferences. Even with the volume slider in osx set to "mute" I still hear sound at full blast. My speakers have no volume control, so I have to quickly turn the volume down in itunes or xm or whatever i'm using before the song starts so I don't blow them. Even with itunes turned down as low as possible, its still too loud. The only control on the sb card itself that actually works is the "mute" button, but pressing it causes the sound to permanently mute until the next restart... Is anyone else having problems like this? Is it because I installed the sb usb patch after installing osx instead of applying it during the install? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. The digital out on my cm8378 el'cheapo PCI board acts the same way. I guess the assumption is that you have a volume control on your digital amp.
