I just bought a Dell Latitude E6510 laptop for college and I would like to setup a tribooting system involving Windows 7, Snow Leopard (or lion if possible!), and Ubuntu 11.04. Also, I would like to set up a similar tribooting system on my desktop computer so that I can communicate between the two easily, and.. Well I just want to I suppose.

Here is the laptop that I bought:

In case that listing expires here is a link to the same laptop on the manufacturer's site:

My desktop is composed of these parts:

Motherboard: GA-P55-USB3 Rev. 2.0 F6

Processor: Intel Core i5-750

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850

Audio: Onboard

Lan: Onboard

For about a week now, I've been trying to set this all up, and have actually succeeded 100% on my laptop on one occasion, and 66% on my desktop. I've been at this whole process for over a week now.

I've read a thousand tutorials, and spoke with a few people who claimed to know the ins and outs of hackintoshes, but I just can't seem to get it all to work. The one 100% laptop install that I mentioned was working flawlessly (Audio and everything) and then suddently ubuntu dropped off my chameleon bootloader. Being the retard that I am (plus it was like 4 in the morning) I formatted everything and was just going to start over. This is when things started to go crazy.

During the next round of installations, I followed these steps: I start out fresh and boot 10.6.6i with ModCD. I load up the partitoner, and make 4 partitions following the GUID partition table. When I go to install SL on my newly formatted Mac partition, it sticks at 12 minutes for a while and then eventually says that the installation can not be completed. When I try and install Windows 7, it always fails during the (Completing installation) process. However, the most recent install worked somehow Though SL failed in the end anyway. Ubuntu alway installs fine, with the same results happening to SL at the end.

I’m really not sure where to go from here, and even if I gave enough information to get help from you guys. I’ve just tried so many different things this week that everything has mixed together and I’m getting confused. ( I think that is most likely my problem now…)

Things that I have pertaining to hackintosh stuff:

Operating Systems:

• Leopard

o 10.5.2 - Kalyway

o 10.5.7 - iAtkos

o 10.5.7 - iDeneb

Snow Leopard

o 10.6.3 - Vanilla

o 10.6.6i - Hazard

Lion

o GM - Vanilla

• Windows 7

o Windows 7 Ultimate

Ubuntu

o 8.10

o 11.04

Boot Disks:

OSx86 Mod CD (Loads 10.6.3 and 10.6.6i)

Empire EFI (Infinitely loads prior to language selection)

Dell Latitude e6410 Boot Disk(Loads 10.6.3 and 10.6.6i)

##### Universal (Kernel Panics every time)

##### ATI 5xxx (Works for desktop and boots 10.6.6i all the way up. It has full resolution and everything. But I can’t click on anything)

As you can see... through trial and error I have amassed a large collection of discs.

SO basically I come here in hopes that you guys can help me successfully get my two tribooting machines running. Why is my mac install failing? Why does my windows 7 install fail half the time? Which bootcd should I use? Is there anyway I can update to Lion? (During the several early installs, my computer would always kernel panic after downloading the 10.6.8 combo update), Should I use GUID or MBR when setting this all up?, Am I doing something wrong?

I’d list my problems with my desktop, but since I’ve been messing with my laptop so much these past few days, I’ve basically forgotten all of the problems I was having. After we get the laptop issue resolved (if we can) I’ll try a install on it again and see what happens.

I’m just so confused.. =[ I'm actually beginning to think that there is something wrong with my hardware because when I first got the laptop Snow Leopard installed with literally NO problems at all. But now when I try to I get errors. Same goes for my desktop. When I try to boot from any of the bootcds, it freezes after mounting and I get Ebios read errors. It's not possible that through messing with all of this my hardware could have been corrupted or something is it?

PS: If you are availble for instant messaging via Aim, Yahoo, Facebook, or something else, please let me know. It would be much easier to discuss this over that.
