I was running 10.6.6 (used myhack 1.1 for this) I cloned the drive using Carbon Copy.

I updated the original drive to 10.6.8 by downloading full package from apple site and rebooted.

I got the black screen of death when booting after upgrade.

with my backup hooked to my eSATA port I selected it to boot from after restarting and it booted fine.

I made back up of the 10.6.6 backup and did the same booting from a usb connection (back up of back up) with the 10.6.8 drive still installed and it booted fine. I was presented with 3 options to boot the 10.6.8 SATA, the 10.6.6 on eSATA, and the 10.6.6 on USB

I removed the 10.6.8 drive (original) and replaced it with original backup 10.6.6 drive and it does not boot.

originally used myhack 1.1. Is that what is allowing the system to boot with the 10.6.8 drive installed even though I am not booting to it?

What can I do? Id prefer to get the 10.6.8 drive working but want the back ups to boot if I use it too (making it a functional backup)

GA-EX58-UD4P motherboard.

Original configuration: 1TB boot SATA drive, 2nd SATA drive 1.5TB, RAID 3x1TB drives.

I removed the 2nd SATA drive and RAID until I get the update working.

Current Configuration: 1TB SATA drive (10.6.8, not bootable), USB 1TB 10.6.6 copy, eSATA 1TB copy of the copy.
