Language selection screen is gray?

I'm trying to install Snow Leopard on my pc. When I get to the select language for installation screen, the language box is gray. I know that the default is English, so I just pressed enter. the screen went to the one where I'm supposed to do the disk utility step, but it is so slow I can't even access it. What is going on?

 

Specs:

 

Intel WBIBX10J motherboard

Intel Core i5 CPU 750 processor

NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 Graphics Card (monitor connected with VGA cable)

2gb of RAM

 

SATA in bios set to AHCI mode and HPET set to 64 bit mode.
