This is from my blog http://www.osworks.blogspot.com/

After many months of surfing the internet looking for answers, i finally came to the same conclusion as many of you have.

There are "NO" fully working Kexts for the Intel GMA 4500 Graphics chip.

There are Hybrids though, the GMA X3100 which does nothing but add the option of RGB modes, i guess it's better than nothing.

Anyway i did however find a way to give it a better feel and resolve the resolution that plague many, and this includes the resolution for the Chameleon preboot image at startup.

So lets begin shall we.

This Tutorial is assuming you already have OSX running wether it be Leopard or Snow Leopard on your Notebook or Desktop, i'm not going to explain the installation process, for that go somewhere else, there are many guides available on the net.

Step 1

If you have No graphics kexts installed then great, but if you do and it's something other than the GMA X3100, uninstall it first before proceeding.

First you will need to install the GMA X3100 Kext for RGB adjustment. This just gives it a better feel and more depth to the screen though it is not necessary if you prefer not to install it. you can find it HERE. Just install it using "Kext Helper" HERE (your Hackintosh's best friend).

Step 2

After reboot we go to Resolution Hacking so now it's time to fool around with the "com.apple.boot.plist".

Navigate to Your root folder (where your OSX is installed) go to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration.

On SystemConfiguration right click on it and select "Get Info" as in the Image above.

Scroll down to the bottom of this new window and go to Authorization settings, click on the lock on the bottom right corner and type in your password when prompted.

It will give you 3 administrators right click on each one and select "read and write" for each one.

Click on the + sign on the bottom and add yourself to the list also confirming read and write priviledges.

Once done close that window and go into SystemConfiguration. Look for "COM.APPLE.BOOT.PLIST".

Right click on it and do the same thing with Priviledges as you did with "SystemConfiguration".

This will give us Authorization to edit the Plist.

Close the "get info" window and double click on the "com.apple.boot.plist".

Once inside you will need to add the following strings marked in red:

string.jpg

The First string is for the Preboot resolution. Set it to your resolution. In my case it is 1280x800x32.

The second string is for your OSX resolution. It must be the same resolutions as the previous string in my case 1280x800x32.

The third string is for the irritating command line on the top left corner of your preboot that says Image too old force sleep wake. This will eliminate it.

Once done close and save ....Restart.

Ok by now you Resolution should be great.

Step 3

Install Transparent Bar, you can find it Here

Follow the instructions on the download page and you are done.

Don't forget to set the RGB in the preference pane under Monitor.

Good Luck and enjoy your Hackintosh.
