I have a microATX case sitting around. I've been playing with OS X on my AMD system, first under VMWare, then installed on a USB drive and booting natively for the last few weeks. I've decided to take the plunge and stick an intel mobo/processor in the spare case: I have about 400 dollars or so to play with. These are the parts I've picked out, totalling about $350.

Motherboard:

Intel BOXD945GTPL Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Processor:

Intel Pentium D 930 Presler 800MHz FSB 2 x 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Dual Core Processor

Memory:

CORSAIR VALUE SELECT 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)

I intend to use the GMA950 initially, perhaps upgrading to something on the PCI-X bus if I feel the need down the road. From what I can tell, the 950 supports QE/CI, so it should be decent for surfing, word processing, etc?

Any thoughts on this combination?

Excellent! That's what I was hoping to hear. You wouldn't happen to have an ADD2 card for it, would you? I saw that newegg has a dual-dvi ADD2 card. running both of my 1907 flatpanels would be very cool.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the only way to get dual-display working at this point is with an ADD2 card, but I'm just not sure if ANY ADD2 card will work, or if only particular ones work. As I understand it, it's basically a card that uses the 950 but shunts the output to more than one display. Well, the card on newegg is only 25 bucks, so I'll probably just take a chance on it and report back.
