When trying to install Mac OSX (10.5 Leopard iATKOS v1.0i) I have some problems.

As some Info, My Processor supports SSE2, and Is a Pentium 4 2.53GHz. My DVD Drive is Secondary Master in BIOS. I burned the DVD image of iATKOS to a DVD-R at the lowest write speed, and verified the data. After that, I made a separate partition for OSX, (FAT32) and, according to Acronis, is located at d(0)p(2). It is nether primary or active. The options to do so in Acronis are disabled.

After booting from the DVD at boot, I used the standard install method, and the installer got stuck at the "Spinning Apple Logo" screen. I rebooted, and used F8 to add commands to darwin. Using Verbose boot mode, the installer hung on BSD Root. After rebooting, I altered the commands, and got "Still waiting for root Device". After altering the commands further, I received a Kernel Panic message in Verbose boot mode.

(Stripped to important stuff)

Panic CPU0 Caller 0x002D68EE NFS_BOOT_INIT Failed.
BSD Process Name corresponding to current thread: Kernel Task

(Using Platform=X86PC, rd=disk0 -v -f -x)

(Stripped to important stuff)

After tinkering more, I received another (Different) Kernel Panic message.

Devfs_Kernel_mount: failed to find directory '/dev' 2panic CPU0 Caller 0x0036CAD7 Process exec of /SBIN/launchd failed.

What should I do next? Did I miss something, or is it a Hardware incompatibility? To be honest, I have no idea. I've tried everything I know, and researched everywhere. (Please don't tell me to use VMWare or VirtualBox. :P )

Thank you. :)

EDIT - Added Info:

My Current Drive setup is with the DVD Drive Set to Master, CD-ROM drive set to slave. I have not changed the HDD's settings yet, Mostly because it's a pain to get at in my PC. I believe it's set to Cable Select, but In my BIOS, it shows that it's the Primary Master. The DVD Drive is "Secondary Master".

Solution:

Patching the iAtkos Install ISO to r3.

Also in a post below.

Well, I have another problem.

Now, After the reboot, the PC just bootloops after loading Darwin/x86.

Solution:

Removed the CPUPowerManagement Driver with iATKOS install.

After Booting OSX with the IntelPowerManagement.Driver removed, the PC goes to:

BSD Root: -Partition-

And hangs for a few seconds, Then, very quickly says:

Syncing disks.. Killing all Processes.

Continuing..

Done.

MACH Reboot.

Solution:

SSE2 SSE3 Kernel Patch install fixed Bootloop.

(I hate to bump my own topic, but I do need some help.)

Added info.

At first look, it seems the kernel may not be compatible with your SSE2 computer.

I don't know which version of iAtkos 1.0i DVD you have. There were patches issued for iAtkos 1.0i R2 and R3. Maybe you need those patches.

If you have iAtkos 1.0i, the R2 patch can be found here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&p=630913 and the R3 found here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&p=630458 That R3 has two patches in it, one for a bad BIOS. You might do well to read then entire thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88404

If you don't know anything about PPF patches, go to Google and look up "ppf patching" and "ppf-o-matic".

There were other distros that worked on SSE2 computers. Go to the search box at the top of this page and enter "SSE2" and see which distros are mentioned that people were using. Maybe you need to find one of them.

Is there a package I need to install?

Did you select packages to install during installation? Before pressing the "Install" button, just to the left will be a "Customize" button. Press that and select packages that apply to your hardware. Be sure to select a kernel that is SSE2 capable.

Also, try to start in verbose mode, right after the computer BIOS goes through its POST phase, it wil then start the boot. The screen will still be black. Start tapping the F8 key until you get a command line. If you get the grey screen with the Apple and spinning wheel, you missed it, try again a little earlier. When you get the command line, type -v followed by <Enter> and watch the messages displayed before it reboots.

I did select packages. I'm trying a re-install to see if that fixes anything. Before the bootup, with -v, it would get to Darwin/x86 and then reboot. After I reinstall, I'll try running it with tohkernel cpus=1, since I've read that helps for Pentium4s.

Okay... Got Another problem.

After Rebooting, I chose the standard Darwin X86 Bootloader.

Install completed successfully, rebooted, no loop.... Then, another Kernel Panic.

After BSD Root line, it reads (In verbose mode)
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x001A8387): Kernel trap at 0x1afad92c, tpye 14=page fault, registers:
-Lots of numbers-
Error Code: 0x000000003

Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies)

There is a kernel panic caused by the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. During installation, one of the choices under "Additional Patches" in iAtkos is "Remove CPUPowerManagement driver". Select that during installation.

Before starting over with a reinstall, try something first. Boot iAtkos and UN-select everything then select only the "Remove CPUPowiermanagement driver" option. Click install. If you are lucky, only that package will be run and that problem will be fixed so you can move on to the next problem. If it doesn't work, all you lost was a little time.

I had the same Idea, But The Boot loop is back, albeit a bit different.

After Booting OSX with the IntelPowerManagement.Driver removed, the PC goes to:

BSD Root: -Partition-
Syncing disks.. Killing all Processes.

Continuing..
Done.

MACH Reboot.

I tried installing it without OSX, and It rebooted just like with a complete re-install.

Previously you said:

When you booted and did NOT get the loop, did you use those boot flags?

Looks like you need to reinstall from scratch and this type make sure to select to remove the IntelPowerManagement driver.

Edit: Under Patches -> Kernels is an SSE2 SSE3 kernel. You might consider trying to install that.

When I booted using CPUS=1 flag, I got kernel panics. Now, When I boot with CPUS=1, it reboots. I did a complete re-install of OSX, With the Driver removed. I used all the flags that I knew. (-V -F -S -X Platform=x86pc cpus=1) Still reboots after BSD Root. Is it busted?

Edit: I'll try installing the SSE2 / 3 Kernel.

Okay. SSE2/3 Kernel install got me through the MACH Reboot. Trying to complete the boot, and see how it goes. :)

Install is complete, Boot works fine, no flags required. Boots into OSX with Audio, Video, Mouse, Keyboard, but no WiFi.

Thanks!

WiFi might be fixable if the vendor and device id's were known about it. One way to learn about these is to use a utility called OSX Tools: http://code.google.com/p/osx86tools/downlo...ols_1.0.150.zip

Click on the button named: View PCI Device/Vendor ID

Click on the button named: Reinstall PCI Utils

Restart the computer

Click on the button named: View PCI Device/Vendor ID

Click on the button named: Run LSPCI

Hopefully the wireless is made by Broadcom or Atheros. If it is, obtain the vendor and device ids for it.

OSX86 Tools doesn't work on mine.

"You can't open the application "OSX86Tools.app" because it is not supported by this architecture." :P

Luckily, I found a Driver for a little USB Wifi Adapter I had laying around. Gonna try that.

OK, the install DVD PROBABLY has the file you need to fix the problem. But I'm not sure until we know the vendor and device id's.

1. You can take a chance and install the file and see if it works

or

2. You can dump a file out from your system that I review and see whether I can determine the needed info - no guarantee and the end result may be to install that same file.

Your choice.

1. The file to install is Drivers -> Network -> IO80211Family.kext 10.4.5

or

2. Dump the following file:

a- Open Terminal in the Applications/Utilities folder

b- type:

ioreg -l > /Users/(your user name)/Desktop/ioreg.txt (that is a dash followed by a lowercase L)

c- Find the file ioreg.txt on your Desktop and get it off the computer and attach it to a posting here

d- If you can't get the file off the computer, then there are some commands that can be run where you tell me the results.

e- In Terminal, run the following commands and give the results:

ioreg -l | grep 14e4
ioreg -l | grep 168c

I ran the commands, and the ioreg.txt file is blank.

The other 2 commands just show the ioreg usage.

I really just need to know how to install a Kext on mine. None of the programs work. I found some drivers for the adapter that I have, but I have to install the Kexts for them.

With all due respect, you must be typing the commands incorrectly, especially if the usage is showing up.

The command

ioreg -l

should give a full screen of data. The command is "ioreg", followed by a space, followed by a dash, followed by a lowercase L (not a one).

In any case, here are two utilities to help install kexts:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=253395

Well, I found how to install the kexts manually, since no apps would work on mine "not supported by this architecture".

Installed the Kexts, Rebooted, and now, Vuala! Wifi works. Thank you, I think I'll stick around this forum for a little while, Maybe provide some help. :)
