Hi all,

Currently have a 10.6.6 install via kakewalk running with a 4890 GPU. Working perfectly. Dual boots with Windows 7 on a separate drive.

I am looking to upgrade the GPU to ATI 6970 as need the extra balls for the windows install but without having to reinstall OSX if at all possible.

Any tips on how to go about this in the most painless fashion? A 6950 is also possible if the 6970 poses too many headaches.

Thanks

6950 and 6970 do NOT work in os x yet despite what you have read elsewhere. The so called news leaked by TonyMacx86 stating that these cards are supported is just plain wrong and has been criticised by all of the sites that actually did the hard work that they based their claims on.

OK then. No Worries. Any idea what the fastest card can get in there at the moment is with minimum of fuss?

IMHO if you can wait a little more (maybe when lion comes up) it's the better choice. I'm in the same situation (and we're not the only one i think). If you're in hurry you can (as i've read in a lot of posts that seems to be already supported quite well) purchase an ati 6870. IMHO passing from a 4890 to a 6870 i don't think you gain so much power.

As me, i'm waiting for the complete support of the latest 5xx nvidia card to make the exchange with an old 9800gt, hoping it will comes with lion final. bye and sorry for english!
