I have recently converted to mac and wow what an experience it has been.

Anyway i have these two issues I can not figure out.

One is that for some reason even with energy saver set to the following

*Settings for power adapter

*Optimization: custom

*Sleep options: Put computer to sleep: NEVER

*Put the display to sleep when inactive for an hour

With these settings, say I finish my work for the night. But like to leave my pc on incase i get an msn message and leave my mail on so in the morning I can check it quicky. What happens: well when i open my screen the hard drives power up and msn and mail has been disconnected all night??? I know how to fix this in windows...

It does this even If I am say downloading a few apps from apple.com and close the screen.. But even If i leave my screen up and do not close it. It does the same thing? Any ideas how to fix this or is it just apple defaults because it the mac book pro 17" standards?

The other error that is rather annoying is apple mail program wont let me add my own second pop mail to it. It doesnt let it authenticate the smtp server.. Is there any other opensource mail similar to apple mail I could use or is there a plugin in apple mail to get your own smtp working from your .mac account?

There are known problems with sleep. Avoid it if you can.

In Mail, go to Preferences -> Accounts.

On the left, click on your .Mac account

In the lower right, click the popup beside Outgoing Mail Server.

Select Add Server and enter the correct data.

When done, go back to the Outgoing Mail Server and select the server you just added.

I have it disabled, from what I read on the apple site, if you close your macbook pro no matter what it sleeps. So i leave it open and sleep is not activated anywhere, just turn of monitor after an hour and then soon after sleep..

thanks mail is fixed..
