Hello everyone! Thanks for all the useful info on this forum. It's helped a lot already.

Someone gave me an Acer Aspire One D150-1577 (the label also says KAV10). Windows makes me cuss, and Linux doesn't stream netflix or run xcode. Thus the attempt to convert this little laptop to OS X. This isn't the most ideal netbook for the project but it was free hardware...

Used retail Snow Leopard with Meklort's NetbookInstaller 0.8.5pre, then updated with 10.6.6 combo update via usb drive. Built in wifi doesn't work so I'm using a USB adapter from AirLink101 which came with Mac drivers. (Any suggestions for a replacement net card? I think it's half-height PCI express. Prefer something that costs less than US$20 and requires no software hacking to use native Airport drivers.)

Sound via voodooHDA - works. Built in camera - works. Trackpad - 2-finger scrolling works. Haven't tried ethernet or VGA yet.

Sleep mode puts the netbook into deep hibernation and then starts a crazy reboot loop. The only way out is to tell the boot loader "Wake=no". Lesson: Don't use sleep mode. Unless someone can tell me how to fix it.

Hard drive occasionally makes little spin-up noises for no apparent reason. Not sure if this is normal.

Now here's the problem, and why I'm posting this: Video playback on netflix and youtube is about 1 frame per second. Sound quickly gets way out of sync. I know this has a mobile GMA 950, which has a reputation for being slow. But I know several other people with identical hardware who have no problems at all with netflix, youtube, neverwinter, etc in WinXP.

My first-generation MacBook has a GMA 950 as well, and it plays back video at 1080p easily. Of course, it has a dual 2 GHz instead of a single 1.6, but it's still a GMA 950 and video is good. (Note: System profiler on the MacBook does not say "Mobile" and the device ID is 0x27a2. Compare with info dump below.) So I think there's something wrong with my netbook's GMA 950 driver.

Can someone please tell me where to start? I've tried looking around this forum for answers, but it's confusing and I'm not sure what would be out of date and what would be current. What follows is a paste from System Profiler to get started. Please let me know if any other info would be helpful.

Thanks!

Quick update on the situation: I found instructions somewhere on the net that helped a little. Not sure if I can link to it without breaking the rules though.

Basically it involves making backup copies of /Sys/Lib/Ext/AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext and AppleIntelGMA950.kext, then doing a search and replace to change 27A28086 to 27AE8086 in each kext's Info.plist file. Reboot & it works a little better. Instead of being 1 frame per second, netflix streaming is now grainy and choppy but tolerable. Youtube also stutters but is much more watchable.

It's an improvement, but I know the hardware is capable of so much more. Any ideas?
