PJBonoVox
Hi there! I've seen this problem mentioned before but with no resolution I'm obtained a DVD from the 'usual' sources and have managed to get it to boot up, configure a partition, add the AMD and AMD SSE2 patches and copy all the files over. Unfortunately at the end when the 'reboot' button appears, the mouse and keyboard are not responding. It's not completely hung since the little 'wheel' animation continues to go around but I can't move the mouse or operate the keyboard. Does anyone have _any_ clue what this could be? I'm so close, yet so far...! Also I'm afraid I don't actually know what ISO it is that I have (patcher)-- All I know is that it is 10.4.6. My hardware is an MSI K8N Neo2 (NForce3) with onboard network disabled, 2GB RAM, IDE disk, XFX 6800GT and a D-Link DFE-530TX NIC. asap18
Usually if that happens to me i just let it go for like 5-10 minutes then manually restart it. I never had any problems after that. Have you tried booting up yet? If you did boot up with -v to show the errors. PJBonoVox
Hi there. I'll try that. A reinstall and then wait a while. I can't boot-- I get a GRUB boot error. Can't remember which one but it's very common. I think I'll quit while I'm ahead if you can't do it either. I guess i'll wait till I get paid and build a little Intel based Hackintosh box Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/24338-os-x-install-appears-to-hang-right-at-the-end-solved/#findComment-162010 Share on other sites

The restart will not work until you Hexedit the mach_kernel. Just hit your PC reset button and let it restart and bootup to the login GUI... asap18
Do you have linux on or did you install grub yourself? Rather give osx its own drive as there is usually a higher success rate. You can use chain0 if u have xp. Also make sure to erase the actual disk to write a new bootsector. PJBonoVox
So the comments in this thread helped to solve the problem. Here's a couple of pointers. 1) I didn't erase the disk, I erased the partition. I didn't realise you can actually select the disk itself in the OSX installer disk tool. This killed the Grub bootloader that had been left behind from a previous installation. 2) I didn't realise, but there is a timer at the end that counts down to a restart. This is why it was always hung when I came back to it. People said that AMD CPU's struggle with a restart, but I thought 'hey, I haven't even clicked restart yet. Funnily enough OSX had already done it, and the same with the other previous five installs where I went away and came back at the end. 3) I hadn't set the partition as 'active' so I received the message 'B0 error' when I tried to boot. I fired up QTParted, set it as active and this solved the problem. It doesn't support my network card or soundcard, but now I know OSX is pretty flippin' cool, I'm gonna have to build a dedicated Intel box Thanks all for your help!
