OziD
So I got my computer the other day, I figured it would be a pretty good setup to run OS X on it, so I went ahead with the download. After burning the DVD, I booted from it, and it loaded the installer, I got the Grey screen with the white apple logo, and then It told me I needed to restart in 4 languages. Here is a pic of what it says when I -v. and I've attached my CPU-Z dump. But Basically: Core Duo T2500 Intel GMA 950 2GB of DDR2 Ram I am SSE3 capable I believe. Any other specs you need just let me know. Any help is appreciated. cpuz.txt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/24083-pre-installation-failure/ Share on other sites
Rammjet
Maybe try turning off hyperthreading in BIOS, just for the installation. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/24083-pre-installation-failure/#findComment-160015 Share on other sites
OziD
I can't seem to find anywhere in the BIOS to turn it off. There aren't many settings available in the Bios, actually. Rammjet
When you boot the install DVD and it asks if you want to specify boot parameters before hitting "Enter", try entering: cpus=1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/24083-pre-installation-failure/#findComment-160029 Share on other sites

OziD
Mac Installed successfully. But Now I get that when I set it to cpus=1 on boot. I followed dilnalomo's tutorial. I get another error on normal boot. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/24083-pre-installation-failure/#findComment-160136 Share on other sites
Rammjet
When you clicked on Customize (right before clicking the Install button), what packages did you choose to install? OziD
it was the HOTiSO one, and I just clicked on the Intel and AMD patch. Other than that I used all the ones it had pre-selected. What is the x11 patch, by the way, I didn't use that one. Rammjet
X11 is a windowing environment for Unix. I believe the Intel and AMD patch had a little arrow in front of it. If you had clicked on it you would see the separate Intel patches and AMD patches. You can't install both. OziD
worst. ok so how do i go back? is it as simple as formatting the drive and re installing? or do should I format, merge, create the partition, and then reinstall? Rammjet
Just boot the install DVD, use Disk Utility and then go into the install. When you get to Customize, click on the little arrows and choose only what you need. OziD
What options should I chose? My options are: 10.4.6 Combo Update INTEL.SSE3 INTEL.SSE2 10.4.6 GMA900 Support (I have the 950 so I assume yes to this?) VIA.Sata.ATA I omited the AMD options, obviously. Rammjet
10.4.6 Update and SSE3. If you have SATA, go for the VIA.SATA. I'm not so sure the GMA900 applies to the 950. Some people have had problems. I would not install it.
