Update: read post #2

Original

Setup

I installed 10.6 on my ASUS P6T motherboard using Chameleon, and most stuff is working (audio, network, USB, updated to 10.6.2), except for my graphics card (a Sapphire ATi HD4890 1GB). I can select only 1 resolution (1400x1050) and my UI feels a bit slow, like it's software-rendered. I can not select 'Translucent menu bar' in System Prefs -> Desktop, which seems to be an indication for working QE/CI.

Done so far

- Downloaded 'Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards.pkg' from netkas.org. (I think) this installed ATI4800Controller.kext in /S/L/E, which is a good thing. I think. :P

- Downloaded 'LegacyATI4800Controller.kext' from the internet. Installed using Kext Utility. Can't find this in my /S/L/E or /Extra/Extensions though.

- Searched the internet. There is a lót of information out there, and it's confusing. A lót.

Questions

1. I've read i should add the PNP ID to the info.plist of my ATI4800Controller, but i could also add EFI-Strings or patch the DSDT (whatever that means). Which one is the best, and which one is the easiest?

2. My card has dual DVI, and i'm using a DVI->VGA adapter to connect through my TFT screen (Xbox is using DVI on the same screen). Should i use DVI instead?

3. Should / can i update to 10.6.4 or 10.6.5?

4. Is there anything else i can do to get my card working correctly? :)

I know you can't do all the work for me, but a nudge in the right direction would be great. I'm not a total noob but i'm new to osx86'ing. If you need more info or if something is unclear, let me know.

Sorry if i screwed up the english grammar, not a native.

Well, i'm at the next step.

I updated to 10.6.5 and installed Netkas' patch. Now my menu bar is transparent, my UI is smooth and i can select multiple resolutions in my System prefs. However...

i can only select a resolution up to 1280x1024, while my screen is widescreen and supports 1680x1050.

Done so far

- I've edited com.apple.Boot.plist and it now holds the following keys (among others):

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1680x1050x32</string>

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>"Grapics Mode"="1680x1050x32@60"</string>

- i tried both a VGA and a DVI cable. My 4890 has 2x DVI so i used a converter there.

- i updated Chameleon. i don't think that has anything to do with the problem, but just to be sure.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Hi! Will your method working on HD4850?

The kexts i used are for a HD4890, you should have kexts for a 4850 (i did a quick search and found this: http://www.kexts.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=95 ).

If you have installed those (or any other 4850 kext), you should add the PNP ID to the kext (at least, that's how i understood it). There are some osx86 wiki docs about that how to do that.
