mykrowyre
Asus L5800GM (hyperthreading, Pentium R IV) Verbose output shows: "AppleIntelPIIXPATA: ICH5 ATA/100 (CMD0x1f0, CTR0x3f4, IRQ14, BM 0xfc00) Still waiting for root device Still waiting for root device . . . I examined my IDE config and my DVD-ROM is on IDE0 Slave, and the Hard drive is on IDE1 Master. I can't change this in the bios, and I am guessing I cant change it on the motherboard either since this is a laptop. I've read that others have succeeded booting on the L5G laptops. I am downloading a Bios update now to see if it has any positive effect... any suggestions appreciated. Thanks I am using 10.4.3 (assuming patched, can't remember the original iso name). mykrowyre
Does the hard drive HAVE to be a IDE0/Master? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23261-boot-hangs-help-plz/#findComment-154558 Share on other sites
Rammjet
Is the hang during booting the DVD or during the boot of OSX after installation? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23261-boot-hangs-help-plz/#findComment-154560 Share on other sites
mykrowyre
Sorry, during booting the DVD. Forgot to mention that part... have tried -F, -s , -x with no luck. Also tried rd=disk0s1 (my dvd drive) and it craps out with a debug dump and complains about not being able to connect to a debugger. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/23261-boot-hangs-help-plz/#findComment-154565 Share on other sites
Rammjet
I don't know, normal advice would be to try to get both hard drive and optical drive on the same ata chain, to make one of them master and the other slave using jumpers (no cable select). And if that didn't work, to reverse the master/slave settings. But the waiting for root device is a hard one to solve. Be sure to disconnect any attached drives including any flash drives.
