I've got my hackintosh working perfectly except shutdown and restart. So here is my problem whenever I shutdown or restart my hackintosh it shuts down fine except on the reboot it freezes at the apple logo with the spinning circle (not the beach ball) the circle just spins and spins and sometimes it will finally get to the desktop after like 2-3 minutes but if it does its just frozen. But if I use the power button on the computer to force shut it down everything works fine. My motherboard is a Gigabyte p55-usb3 if that helps and I used ##### supported and ##### with ##### for the install so I have a vanilla kernel which I want to keep and I don't have a patched dsdt. Please help this is the last thing to make my hackintosh perfect.

I Sometimes have this problem but it sometimes happens even if i try to turn on my laptop and the wheel never appears ...i have to turn on and off and on and off till one time the wheel appears.

you can try the EVOSX86 Reboot and shutdown fix altho i have never tested it but its worth the try

EVOSX86 Shutdown/Restart Fix

I have this problem only when I install the BCM5787 kext for the integrated Broadcom Ethernet card. So, maybe you have a problematic kext as well. Check the shutdown/reboot function just after fresh OSX setup and before installing any additional kexts.

So are you saying I should reinstall Snow Leopard?

That kext is already installed thanks anyway though.

He saying you should reinstall snow leopard but you can chose to install to another partition just for testing and then remove / move to and start using the fresh one.

Also, in this case it might not be a problematic kext cause on my laptop i've noticed that mac is only able to boot in a certain time ...for example if my BIOS takes longer for ACPI and hardware recognition ...mac will not boot. And most of the time,Verbose used to note something about USBs or just fakesmc freezes the system loads which fakesmc is needed for the wheel to start spinning.

Edit : Also did you try to reboot and shutdown without the EVOSX86 kext ...it might be that the system does not need it and it might also be the cause.
