I just got 10.4.6 jas and need to write a DVD, but don't have any readily equipped (good status) systems. I had installed 10.4.3 on my laptop but I'm stuck with the external limitation (even after trying dongles, updated drivers, vi'ing files, etc). One night ago, I botched the last OS X installation after unpacking other GMA drivers. I attempted a fresh install just for the heck of it. This install never finished the setup scripts even though it was at 99% for 20 minutes. It must be a random VM thing. Anyway, I wasn't concerned as 10.4.6 is on the way, but I hadn't thought in advance how I was going to get the ISO to DVD.

Nonetheless, I now need to write the DVD, but 10.4.3 isn't installed. I tried to install again (after the failed install) and it dies with the "you need to restart your computer", like 10.4.3 setup does if I try to install natively (LCD or ext). /t shows this dialog before spinning progress status. What's changed? Must be something about the incomplete install.

For those who go to re-install from DVD/ISO and it install crashes with "you need to restart your computer" before spinning the status logo, try zeroing out your MBR and the partition/drive on to which you plan to install. I booted a Linux distro and ran dd for 400MB's over my intended OS X partition.

After that 10.4.3 booted in to setup again, correctly.
