I've successfully installed SL onto my gaming PC, but am still trying to work out a few kinks. One of the problems I've run into is with the available BIOS modes. The widest aspect ratio available (according to PCEFI) is 1280x1024 at 5:4. There are other much higher resolutions available (such as 1920x1440), but all of these modes are 4:3. I have two widescreen monitors available to me, and they both insist on stretching the 1280x1024 to their native resolution, resulting in a nasty looking picture.

Do I have any options here, short of hacking the video BIOS? I checked with the manufacturer support and there is no BIOS update available for my card (XFX Radeon HD 5750 1GB.) Are the list of video modes provided by PC-EFI taken from the BIOS or are they determined by PC-EFI? Could PC-EFI "trick" the card and/or into displaying an aspect ratio native to the monitor?

Please note, I'm not looking to get QE/CI working. I know that's impossible just now, though I have hope that the next iMac/Mac Pro refresh will include 5750 support.

The list of available modes during boot is pulled from your video card's BIOS.

Try this:

Thanks, Beerkex'd! That worked very well, though not quite as described in the thread. I found that I was unable to change the Graphics Mode at boot, but when specified in com.apple.Boot.plist I got a screen at my Cinema Display's native resolution (1600x1024). Another source of confusion was the fact that Chameleon was looking in /Extra instead /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration for the config file. When did that change?

While I have a display at native rez now, I'm not certain that videos will play well at that high a resolution with the VESA driver. I'm probably going to end up dropping the rez to 1280x800 or so.

Anyway, thanks much!
