kawasakiguy37
Im looking to a build a small video editing monster. i7 860 1156 - 199 (microcenter) 8 gigs (4 x 2 sticks) XMS DDR3 CORSAIR - 250 (FRYS, $20 MIR) Gigabyte P55 mATX UD2 - 109 (microcenter) Seagate barracuda 1TB 7200RPM 32mb cache - 90 (microcenter) Corsair TX 120mm fan PSU 650W single 12v - 109 (microcenter) Cooler Master hyper 212 CPU cooler - 20 (microcenter) DA BOX classic - 150 (DABOX) LG Bluray burner - 150 (newegg) Asus radeon HD 4870 for softmod - 170 (newegg) I also will be using an old 10,000 rpm 70 gig WD raptor for my system drive (or maybe scratch?) This is what I currently have ordered. Look good? I know the 4870 isnt the fastest for that price, but I want something I can softmod to a workstation card thats also compatible with OSX. Thanks! Doc_Tor
Can I ask why you have chosen the i7 860 over the i7 930 approx the same price? I am looking to build a video editing rig and I was thinking of going with the latter. kawasakiguy37
Mobos are way more expensive for the 930, and theres little in the mATX realm. Isnt the 860 newer? Mackilroy
No, the 930 is much newer than the 860. X58 is also a better platform for video editing. The 860 would suit you fine, the 930 is simply better. That should be awesome for video editing! A graphics card that is less than amazing just makes it more like an authentic mac anyway.. Thanks! get a 9800 GT - 1GB RAM for $110 or $70 used on ebay. or 9800 GTX but either is cheaper than that 4870 and 9800 in OSX are some of the most compatible cards out there Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/219491-video-editing-monster-cube-case/#findComment-1546348 Share on other sites
