core duo owners patched mach_kernel

as i understand the 10.4.7 update is still running the 10.4.4 kernel due to the fact that 4.4 mantains power saving compatability with all current processors. anyone know if he made a patched version of the newer kernels available? or if the older patchfilles will work on the newer kernels(i doubt it). it seems using the newer kernels would help with some of the current compatability issues. then again it might be more prudent to wait another month for 10.5
