mudpark Posted July 10, 2006 Share Posted July 10, 2006 I am going to be purchasing a laptop with the 945PM chipset. I cannot find any documentation for this particular chipset. Does anyone have any information on it, such as will the Ethernet work, or will the Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection work? I am getting the laptop with an Ati x1600 so I know that I am fine for video. I am just concerned as to whether this chipset will allow me to use the internet. Thanks in advance for the help. And iTunes is 'expired' apparently but we care less about that for the moment. ------------------------- Edit: Audio Fixed!! ------------------------- Ok everybody, awesome news: got audio working wonderfully. Well, wonderful in that it works (we don't seem to have any input yet, but volume control on the menu bar - preference pane doesn't work either) with output. I bet you wanna know how we did it eh? Well this is all thanks to pion at osx86 (his original post is here: http://www.win2osx.net/forum/showthread.ph...233&page=15 ) I've also included the file included with the post on that forum. 945G's Realtek ALC882 instructions for 10.4.3 (8f1111) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To get 2- channel sound you have to move AppleHDA.kext out of the Extensions Folder and replace the AzaliaAudio with this one, repair permissions and enable sound in the bios. Installation instructions ---------------------- Download the file unzip the file to your desktop open terminal do the following: sudo -s enter your password cp -r /system/library/extensions/AppleHDA.kext /system/library/extensions.disabled cp -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext /System/Library/Extensions.disabled cp -R /Users/YOUR USER NAME HERE/Desktop/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext /System/Library/Extensions/ chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/ then you're done!!! reboot system --------- Good luck everyone, let us know how you get on and next step: WIRELESS! Wohoo. Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG here... 2 Channel is better than nothing. Even though it's for the 945GM chipset, Im assuming that it will work for the 945PM too. asstastic Posted July 13, 2006 Share Posted July 13, 2006 Mud I hate to get your hopes up but it sounds like you're getting an acer 5672wlmi. The only other models i know of with a x1600 are made by asus and the HP buisness models, and since the acer is the cheapest i'm thinking it's the one you're getting. Don't expect to get the video working on any of the laptops i mentioned. The boris method has a hard time recognizing internal laptop displays. If you intend to keep your laptop plugged in to an external monitor the entire time you're in OSX you won't have any problems, but i doubt that's the case. You might get castillo to give you a native resolution but it's a bit depreciated now and full video acceleration isn't a given. So unless you're interested in running 1024x768 streched, don't expect to have everthing working smoothly with the current patches. Neither the intel wireless works for any model for the time being, nor the broadcom ethernet that comes on the acer 567x line. The audio comes from the ALC883 and only works half the time. The hacked powerManagement bundle doesn't detect the battery either. So, just a word of warning before you make a purchase you might feel sorry for later. Without internet and audio i can't realy call this laptop compatable as the streched video is only a minor irritation. As for me, I can wait till better hardware support solutions come out for my hackintosh. untill then, it runs windows fine and with the x1600 it's great for gaming, no mobile 7900 for sure, but it didn't cost me $3,000 either.
