irix
Hi all, I've used OSX86 for quite a while now. I had iAtkos and iDeneb for about all the 10.5 versions but hey, it's time to move on. I've read a lot about installing 10.6 from the retail dvd, so I tried a little with no success (didn't try hard enough though), but I noticed a slight difference. In the 'old' days people always recommended P35 boards, but now I keep seeing the P45 boards pop up. As I have them both doing nothing I wonder which one I should use: Gigabyte P35-DS3R Rev. 1.0 Gigabyte EP45-DS3P Rev. 1.0 It will run with: Core2Quad Q6700, not overclocked. Zalman cooler. 4GB DDR2 (quad channel, so 4x 1GB) >> maybe I'll upgrade to 6GB when I find some modules lying around. I'm planning to using 64 bit anyway Geforce 8800GT (MSI version), 512MB External audio (firewire), so not the onboard HD Audio thingy Reloop digital jockey 2 interface edition Korg Zero 8 firewire mixer An extra firewire board, pci-express Sandisk cardreader (USB) 1 or 2 Firewire DV cams All of this did work on 10.5.6 and 10.5.8 My questions are: What problems could I encounter using this combination? Which of the two mainboards should I use? Can I just disable the onboard audio as I'm not planning to use it anyway? Any other stuff I should bother about? Or... maybe just stick to 10.5.8 (I'll reinstall anyhow, the previous install was a bit laggy on the audio part and I wanted to use another harddisk, so just make it a clean install) Thanks in advance!
