Hey everyone! Got a couple of questions for the community.

I started writing iPhone apps on a friends computer and really took a liking to it. Since I now have limited access to the computer I figured I would try installing it on my desktop.

Hardware wise, this is what I have:

Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P

ATI 4830

Q6600 Core 2 Quad

I was reading through a couple of the guides on dualbooting/virtualizing and I was wondering which in the long run would be easier for someone like me who just wants to use XCode.

Lastly, I was wondering what guides you would recommend for someone using my hardware specs (does the ATI card/Quad core CPU really mess things up? Had a hard time finding guides for a build like this). I tried the lifehacker guide for the Gigabyte install but it kept coming up with an error tell me to "Reboot the computer and try again" when the install would load.

Thanks!

OK. Visualization is different from Dual booting..just to make that clear. Visualization is more like running an OS as a software on host OS(A.K.A WINDOWS or Linux or any other OS that your running the software in). Dual booting is to run both Windows and other OS( A.K.A. Hakintosh in this case) on the same computer but each OS on different partitions and they can't run together at the same time. this info is just to make stuff clear.

OK, now , I would suggest Visualization for running your hackintosh. In Virtualization, most of the time(as long as you follow the tutorials ACCURATELY), all your devices will turn out working. Installation of new kexts wouldn't be needed, and the best part is that it is good enough for running Xcode and some other apps(like iTunes(if sound works)).

the two links above are really good tutorials which say how to run OSx86 snow kitty on vmware.. and it also says some limitation and all that stuffs. they will help you.

that's about it from me :)

As Peter has mentioned, virtualisation is probably the easier route, but you will need a couple of things, firstly a copy of VMware Workstation 7 or Player 3, the latter is free. A retail copy of OS X, buy it from Apple, £25.00 UK, €30 Europe or $35.00 US. Then check your CPU has VT-x enabled in BIOS, your CPu does support VT-x according to the specs. If you have all of these inplace and Windows as the Host OS, then Donk's excellent topic and manual should be all you need to get sorted. There are plenty of others doing iPhone App development under OS X on VM Workstation or Player, link to Donk's topic below:
