Nate45 Posted February 18, 2010 Share Posted February 18, 2010 I don't know what to do. It still boots, but since it fails to load it takes an extra 2 mins to boot. It shows up in yellow text. Beerkex'd Posted February 20, 2010 Share Posted February 20, 2010 PCGenUSBEHCI.kext is not an Apple kernel extension, it was written by orbyte in 2006: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28559 If you don't need it then delete it, it's been obsoleted two times over already, first by Slice's USB kexts: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=117029 ...and later by the Chameleon 2.0 bootloader. Refer to boothelp.txt that comes with the Chameleon 2.0 download for more information about USB fixes. Maybe that's why it fails to load. I'll try to find a kext and install it to see if it fixes, but i'll look at the link you posted first. Look inside the plugins folder of IOUSBFamily.kext (right-click, show contents). Remember to delete /System/Library/extensions.mkext as well when you delete kernel extensions. Beerkex'd Posted February 21, 2010 Share Posted February 21, 2010 Where did you end up finding it, was it inside IOUSBFamily.kext like I said? Anyway, deleting those shouldn't break the whole thing. Extensions.mkext is just a cache of your loaded extensions, it rebuilds itself automatically as soon as you delete it. If you modified IOUSBFamily without fixing permissions afterwards that might be why you can't boot anymore. Boot with your OS X installation DVD, run Disk Utility and fix permissions on your system drive.
