I have an almost fully working SL install on my HP DV7 1285dx laptop. I say almost because USB 2.0 is not working (I get the "EHCI controller unable to take control from BIOS" error while booting). My USB mouse and keyboard do work but anything else like a flash drive or my iPhone are not detected at all. I've been trying to fix this for 2 days now but wasn't able to find a solution. The thing is, when I boot my SL install using the EMPIRE EFI cd then USB works perfectly fine. Booting with Chameleon 2 RC4 is causing the problem. I tried installing the IOPCIFAMILY kext by Slice but it didn't make a difference. I also tried removing AppleHPET.kext and that also made no difference. I read that this problem can be fixed using a DSDT patch and while I know what a DSDT file is I don't really know my way around one. I tried adding some code but I always get errors on compilation. I attached my DSDT file hoping someone can take a look at it and provide me with a solution to this irritating problem.

Now the Sleep problem. I am using the 10.6.2 SleepEnabler kext (downloaded from Kexts.com) And while the laptop does go to sleep, upon waking up the screen stays off.

I'll appreciate any suggestions on these two problems (more importantly the USB one)!

Thanks!

Yes, it's in terminal, if you don't have the command, install it first

I patched your USB devices, but don't know if it's the right fix, you can test it

DSDT.zip

BTW, have you tried Chameleon's USB fixes?

USBBusFix

yes

Enable the EHCI and UHCI fixes (disabled by default). These make the USB ports "built-in", enable waking by pressing akey or moving the mouse & fix waking the OS to prevent device removal errors.

EHCIacquire

yes

Enable the EHCI fix only (disabled by default).

UHCIreset

yes

Enable the UHCI fix only (disabled by default).

Hey there dont know if this helps but I have 10.5.8 running on another drive and I just borrowed the this kext from my extensions folder and used kext helper to install it in Snow, after rebooting I regained all the usb ports with proper speed 480mb and they are all recognized by system profiler. Am on an Asus P5B motherboard standard type with Snow Leopard running quite stably right now with the exception of shutdown. (any ideas here ?)

Well back everything up first, maybe this will help, I hope so any way as I have gotten a lot of help from all the blokes and shielas here.

Cheers mates, good luck, Plucka

oldnapalm, thanks a bunch for all the help! I totally forgot about the Chameleon USB fix! Now USB is working just fine! Sleep on the other hand is still a problem. The laptop doesn't fully go to sleep (LED buttons above the keyboard stay on) but the display turns off and never comes back no matter what I press, so I still have to reset every time... Any help on that end? Here's my lspci -nn command output if it helps:

I also notice that OSX detects Firewire during boot although my laptop has no firewire connectors. Might this be causing any trouble?

Plucka, thanks for your suggestion, but the Chameleon USB fix is way better than messing with kexts!

Have you tried the patched DSDT in my previous post? It has this fix (also related to sleep problems)

Don't know, you may try to remove the firewire kexts.

Yes, I am currently using the DSDT you provided but the sleep problem is still present...

Try removing NullCPUPowerManagement and SleepEnabler kexts, then use VoodooMonitor to check if SpeedStep is working. You may need to change SMproductname in smbios.plist (I use MacBookPro5,1). In my laptop sleep doesn't work if AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement is not running, even with SleepEnabler.

I removed the NullCPUPowerManagement and SleepEnabler kexts and changed SMproductname in the smbios.plist file, but sleep still does not work. I downloaded VoodooMonitor and installed its kext. When I launch the application it correctly identifies my CPU but there's nothing about Speedstep there. Where do I check for that?

Check the status tab, if there is variation in values then SpeedStep is working.

Where did you put the dsdt.aml file?

Yes there is a variation in the values but only when I move the mouse over the dock or launch something (like the dashboard). If the computer is idle then there are no changes in the values.

I put the DSDT file in the /Extra folder.
