newbie here. Tried installing several times with the same outcome. I have narrowed down the problem with the combo update to 10.5.3, i think anyways. I can reboot to a perfect desktop as many times as I want until I install that update (following instructions perfectly). I tried first the vanilla kernal because i use a core 2 duo, and that failed so I tried the other, and that failed. Like I said before, I boot perfectly everytime until i install the 10.5.3 combo, and the kernal update. I feel like I have eliminated the kernal update (whether vanilla or the other one) by trying them both. still same message. Operating system not found. any help would be awesome!

Edit: I later discovered that this issue occurs before any update at all. I cannot boot to the OSX installed to the hard drive if the 10.5.2 disc is not inserted into the drive, however, I can boot to the OSX installation on the hard drive as long as the 10.5.2 install disc is in the drive. very interesting. Any ideas would help. Thanks.

Install a bootloader.

forgive me for being dumb, but where can I get the bootloader I need, and what is the process of installing.

let me give a little more background.

C: Windows Vista

D: Windows 7

I shrunk the windows 7 partition and am using the free space on it to create another fat32 partition, then erasing using the kalyway 10.5.2

You can get the Chameleon bootloader at the VoodooProjects forum. The download comes with documentation, plus there's a ton of useful information available in the general forum over there.

Anyway you should to post/read more about multibooting here:

You need to decide where you want to install Chameleon but to get any help you need to provide more details about your setup.

You're booting Vista and Windows 7 (I don't get why anyone would need both Vista and 7 installed at the same time but to each his own) but how do you boot them, how do you normally choose which OS to boot.

Does your Windows 7 drive have the 'System Reserved' partition?

I would ditch Vista and use the whole drive for OS X, it's a lot simpler than installing two OS to the same drive.

Thanks for the info.

My purpose in keeping vista is that my windows 7 is the release candidate. ill be installing the final soon, but i will be doing where vista currently is (not upgrade, be doing clean install) so thats why i don't want to touch vista...as uselesss as it is. this won't be my final install for mac on this machine...im just giving it a try for later use. with my current setup...i have Windows vista on C:\...then Windows 7 RC (7100) on D:\. 7 is the default OS and will boot if nothing is pressed on machine start. Everything is on one hard drive, on seperate partitions. I am using an HP DV6871us. Intel Core2 Duo T5550 1.83GHz 3GB RAM Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS with 256 Dedicated.

To be honest I don't know how to do that on one drive. I use separate drives myself so I don't have to worry about it and just use the BIOS' boot selector to pick my OS X drive when I want to.

Visit the VoodooProjects forum, there are plenty of threads on the subject of multi-booting in the general forum.

Or you could visit the multi-booting subforum here on IM that I linked too above, you have much better chance of getting help there.
