Quick newbie question about kernels & kexts

Hi folks, i hope you can help.

 

I have a Kalyway 10.5.2 install on a Toshiba Sat Pro A100 laptop. Everything works except USB.

I found this thread about the problem but have a quick question on what Mysticus C said :

what does it mean? if you installed kaly 10.5.2 with default settings, it will install 9.2.0 kernel and 9.2.2 system.kext... which means their versions will not match... you have two options;

 

1 get system.kext from your previous 9.2.0 install, or kalyway's 10.5.2 update package's original files folder

2 change the kernel to 9.2.2

 

That is the reason for USB NOT MOUNTING issue...

 

So for point 2 above, does that mean simply to re-install kalyway 10.5.2 and select kernel 9.2.2 in the install customizations section? Or does it mean somehow change the kernel to 9.2.2 within my Kaly 10.5.2 machine?

 

For point 1 above, does this mean find system.kext for 9.2.0 on the kaly 10.5.2 dvd and copy it over the top of the existing /System/Library/Extensions/system.kext ? Then reboot?

After reading the instructions i booted the vanillakernel and USB works a treat !!!

I just have to work out how to make the vanillakernel the default now.
