jrv3034 Posted January 7, 2010 Share Posted January 7, 2010 Hello, all! I've recently built my first Hackintosh with Snow Leopard (using this Lifehacker guide) and am having some problems. Here are my computer specs: CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q9650 3GHz Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Video card: EVGA 9800 GTX+ 512MB Memory: 8GB (4 x 2GB) Patriot Viper 1066MHz RAM (set to 800MHz for stability) Disc drive: SONY Optiarc SATA DVD burner Hard drives: WD 750GB SATA system drive & Seagate 1.5TB SATA media drive Power supply: Rosewill 950w PSU OS: Snow Leopard retail disc updated to 10.6.2 Here's the problem: The computer turns on and runs ok, but when I check the BIOS settings, the CPU clock speed keeps changing. Sometimes it's set to 2GHz, sometimes to 1.6GHz, sometimes to 3GHz. I reset it every time to 3GHz, but it doesn't seem to stay. Whenever I go into the BIOS it gives me a warning that the system was overclocked and it dialed it down. I'm not trying to overclock anything. I just want my machine to run at the 3GHz that the CPU is supposed to perform at. How do I keep the BIOS from changing the clock speed on my computer? Or is there something else that's causing this issue. jrv3034 Posted January 8, 2010 Author Share Posted January 8, 2010 Oh, dear. I just checked the temperature of the CPU in the BIOS, and it's hovering around 90 degrees. This isn't normal, is it? The CPU fan seems to work, but both the BIOS and the Temperature Monitor for Mac both say it's 90 degrees. What do I do? jrv3034 Posted January 10, 2010 Author Share Posted January 10, 2010 UPDATE: Well, I never quite figured out what was going on, but I switched to the GigabyteBoot method described in this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=195248 Now we're talkin'!!! The CPU clock problem seems to have sorted itself out, so that's good. My processor temperature is still running hot (90 degrees F when idle) so I'm going to replace the stock Intel CPU cooler with something better, and see if that helps. But at least my BIOS doesn't keep changing the clock speed on its own anymore!
