wojteko
Hello, I'd like to build a hackintosh which would serve as a small development box. Requirements: - able to install retail osx image (10.5 or 10.6) - low power - built in video - no wireless, no firewire, nothing fancy - everything working oob I'm looking for something like those pre-built atom nettops. Any suggestions? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/205602-recommendations-for-cheap-low-power-development-box/ Share on other sites
miK.
Try googling 'foxconn hackintosh'. You will find lots of info. The build can be made using the Foxconn mini ITX board with built-in audio and video with an Atom 330. Zaap
If you go with an Atom-based system, I'd highly recommend going with the Intel D945GCLF2, rather than the Foxconn board. It's main advantages are DDR2 667 RAM vs. DDR2 533, and Gigabit vs. 10/100 Ethernet. It may not seem like much, but trust me, these Atom-based Hacks are scraping the outskirts of acceptable performance speed, and you need all the onboard firepower you can get. There's a complete parts list and guide for the D945GCLF2 in my sig. (The DDR2-667 RAM is the fastest I've been able to find; its timings put it close to DDR2 800 speeds which would make a noticeable improvement over average DDR2 533). It's very easy to install Leopard on this board, and it's SL-compatible as well. (I personally haven't put SL on the system I own yet). If not an Atom-based system, then look into a G41-based full-sized Hackintosh. It will cost a little more, and be a larger system, but run rings around any Atom-based system.
