I'm a virgin when it com8es to Mac but i'm very interested in it. i've used Linux before and like dit a lot and thought I'd try mac too as a Windows alternative but i need help testing mac on a desktop

i've got an iatkos 10.6 DVD

My ahrdware is:

Windows 7 RC Operating System

AMD Phenom IIx4 945 (64 bit)CPU

ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series Graphics Card

MSI 770-C45 Motherboard

Sometimess I get an error message when trying to boot snow leopord installer and posted screen shots of the error displayed on my desktop

Though if I boot with the option -v (diagnostic messages) it seems to boot...should i be concerned, should i proceed?

At this point I don't want to wipe Windows, if I can I'd like to install it on a scrappyexternal and test it and then if ti works do a dual boot on the internel and then if I'm really pleased Windows can go #$%^ itself :)

I would see what happens. Eventually, a GUI should appear asking you your language preference. Why -v is letting you go further, I don't understand.

It could be that the distro of osx86 you have is not so compatible with your setup. You could try Snow Leopard 10.6.1-10.6.2 Intel AMD made by Hazard. I have an AMD setup and that distro worked great for me. I am not sure if you are aware but not every distro out there will always work. Most of them have support for AMD and Intel but not every single one will have exactly what you need to get rolling. So, good luck.

Oh no, I didn't know that. i thought Snow leopard was snow leopard reguradless xD

I should re-clarify myself. All of the Snow Leopard OSX86 distros are the same in that they install some version of Snow Leopard but they are also all different in that they come equipped with kexts, kernels, and other things that enable Snow Leopard to run on non-Apple computers. So, the distro you are using may not be compatible with your rig. Try some others and see if you get some better results.

First of all, use Snow Leopard with cdboot. No distro {censored}, it's an old {censored} method that NEEDS to die. You can and should install from a Snow Leopard retail disc. You can find out how to do it here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=184338

This link will also help: http://www.infinitemac.com/f19/780g-chipse...-support-t1411/

See how that works out for you.

Ahh, I see. That makes a lot more sense Jack. Yeah I finally went ahead with it and everything SEEMED to be going fine until after the OS was installed and it was getting ready to reboot I got an error message in the same format of the one I was having prior to booting the installer and it doesn't seem to be installed on my external in a manner that'll boot. So I'll look up a different distro like you mentioned and see how that goes.

Boog, thanks for the links, I'll go ahead and read through that too and queue it up as a method to try if jack's suggestion falls through.

Thanks both of you.

Well jack I tried the distro you suggested and it won't even load Darwin :/

I tell it to boot the installer and like ten second into it it just restarts my machine, I dont' even get to the Apple Logo, let alone the actual Installer GUI.

That's too bad. I would try booger_sniffer's link. It does sound very promising.

I have trouble following the intrsuctions in those links, when they start talkinga bout adding kexts and graphical options and what not I really have no idea what they are talking about.
