xcross92
Hi all, I have been browsing around for a while on this forum, researching a build for myself, and quite frankly although I have always thought I was pretty computer literate, my head is starting to spin with all the different configs/kexts etc! Ive come up with a basic list of components/options, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out here! Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Intel Core i7 860 2.8GHz Socket LGA 1156 8MB L3 Cache - Between this and the i5 750 depending on whether the price difference is justifiable? (£50) G-Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 Ripjaw Memory Kit CL7(7-8-7-24) 1.65VCorsair 550W VX Series PSU - 120mm Fan, 5 Year Warranty Antec 300 Three Hundred Case As for graphics, I am thinking of either Zotac 9800GT 1GB Synergy Edition DDR3 or PNY GTS250 1GB GDDR3 ? Are there any issues with these/is one better than the other/neither!? Thanks in advance guys, hoping most of this is alright! Here is a set on benchmarks between i5 750 and i7 860: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=109&p2=108 Although some are fairly close and scale close to the clock speed difference between the two cpus, there are a couple SMP benchmarks where the i7 860 really shine. Plus the i7 cpus have hyper threading where as the i5 doesn't. So, depending on your application that could also give you some extra horsepower. Add in Overclocking potential to either cpu and you should be really happy with the results. I am still rocking my OC'ed Q9550 and look forward to upgrading to most likely an i7 after the first of the year. xcross92
Cheers broken, those differences look pretty decent for a meagre £50 more! Think ill be going i7! Which graphics card would you reccomend out of the two, or is there not much between them? Thanks very much for your help! (btw, are you the same broken as the guy on AVF who developed the PS3 trophies iphone app are you?!)
