modit
I'm thinking of picking up this Acer Laptop: FutureShop Boxing Day Sale - Page 2 It's a 15.6" Laptop with AMD Athlon 2GB RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium. As it's only $299 Canadian ($338 including tax) and it looks like a great deal (better then the HP). My questions does this laptop have enough to run OSX? How about the other HP Laptop with the 15" Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM Windows 7 Home Pre? If you have good advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks! CharredPC
If you're buying this specifically to use for OSX, I wouldn't ever choose AMD. Intel Core 2 Duo cpu's are always the best for Hackitoshes. Not that you can't get AMD to work, but it's never as easy or stable as Intel. If you're set on running OSX, I'd never buy whatever's on sale... buy what has been tested and works well. Also, the Acer you mentioned uses the ATI Radeon HD 3200 video, which is NOT supported by OSX. You'll never have QE (video acceleration) using that card. I can't find any specs on the HP laptop, so it's impossible to recommend it. If it has something like the Intel 4500 chipset, it's the same deal- you'll never have proper video support. You really need to know what the specs are before buying Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/203537-first-acer-hackintosh/#findComment-1367645 Share on other sites

Is there a list online of all the current laptops that work with OSX? I saw netbook compatibility chart @ Boing Boing. It's tough choices. Hope you and others can help me out! modit
Do you know what you want to run Leopard, Snow leopard?Check out the hardware compatibility lists here http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page Snow Leopard...so what's the most proven 15-inch laptop that can run OSX nearly flawlessly? I mean out of the box similar to how the Dell Mini 10v Netbook is simple to mod.
