Mr.Helix
I've installed Mac OS X 10.5.6 from the iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5_final. According to the OSx86 Database, my Hardware should be completely supported. The installation goes fine but upon reboot (in verbose mode the last thing I see is "Starting Darwin...") the screen turns black and nothing happens. I don't get any error messages or anything, just the blank screen. Hardware specs: ---------------- Pentium D805 2,66GHz Dual-Core (not Core Duo) on Asus P5WD2-E Premium [this board has the following specs: Chipset i975x, Southbridge ICH7/R, Marvell 88SE6141 SATA, Realtek ALC882M Audio, Marvell 88E8053 LAN] *no overclocking* NVidia GForce 7900 GT 256MB 2GB RAM 160GB Samsung SATA II on ICH7 During Installation I selected the appropriate kexts for this hardware, yet it didn't seem to matter what I did or did not select here, the result was a blank screen after reboot (as described above). I've tried everything from installing precisely the kexts for my hardware to installing none of the drivers. cpus=1 didn't change anything either. I was following this guide: http://tgrounds.blogspot.com/2009/04/leopa...on-your-pc.html Is there anything else I would have to select during install? I'd appreciate if anyone could help me out, or at least tell me how to figure what's going wrong... I also possess an OS 10.6.1 Installation DVD that came with my MacBook. Not sure how to use this. I figured I should try installing the 10.5 first before attempting 10.6 (ergo upgrading to 10.6) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200223-help-screen-stays-black-upon-boot/ Share on other sites
ameris_cyning
Have you tried connecting your monitor to a different port? If you are connected via VGA, try HDMI or DVI, etc Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200223-help-screen-stays-black-upon-boot/#findComment-1347117 Share on other sites
Mr.Helix
Have you tried connecting your monitor to a different port? If you are connected via VGA, try HDMI or DVI, etc I'm using DVI. Haven't tried changing the port (my graphics card has 2 DVI), and I believe it won't change anything since there is no hard drive activity as soon as the screen turns black. plus it's not black as in "screen went to standby mode", more like "screen shows a black picture"- thus indicating that the port is active but showing a black image... However, I'm willing to give this a try. Will edit this post when there's news. EDIT: As expected, changing the DVI port didn't change anything. Here's a screenshot of what I see last before the screen goes black. ameris_cyning
try to boot with -x option, that will boot you into safe mode Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200223-help-screen-stays-black-upon-boot/#findComment-1347208 Share on other sites
Mr.Helix
booting with -x option: same result, black screen. One thing I did notice is that the resolution is being changed to 1920x1200 (my native screen res) - but this is not affected by the -x option. I tried to force 1024x768x16@60 but it didn't help either. Even booting without a screen attached results in a hang. I might add that I get the same thing when trying to load the OS X 10.6.1 installation through the Empire EFI Boot CD. Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot! ameris_cyning
My apologies, man, I am all out of ideas. I am not that good when it comes to dealing with nVidia cards (ATI man myself) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/200223-help-screen-stays-black-upon-boot/#findComment-1347262 Share on other sites
