David Alex
Hey I recently decided to update my mac from 10.5.1 as I few programmes I tried to use required the update. I updated from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 easily following a tutorial. I was following these steps. Download the 10.5.2 Combo Update (search Google) 343MB Go to /System/Library/Extensions/ Start Update When AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext apperars, move it to trash immediatly The install finishes, but do NOT click the restartbutton! Go to /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/ and open the file 1 with a texteditor if you can’t access the folder rightclick > Get Info at the bottom of the window it says Sharing & Permission, unlock it and click the plusbutton Select your Username, press Select and change your permissions to read & write [*]Find the string /System/Library/Extensions/Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext and replace it with /System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext [*]Save the file and restart I tested the mac for a day and everything worked fine. I then decided to goto 10.5.3. The tutorial said it was fine to follow the same steps again and all should be dandy. Shorly after following step 4 of the tutorial(moving kext file to the trash) the mac grey screened and told me I had to restart. With no other options I did. Now it wont load, even in safe mode. It gets stuck on the white loading screen. It acts like its loading but nothing happens. I left it on for 4 hours and it stayed on that screen.... Im not really sure what my options are now. I dont want to format as I have tons of files on there I cant really loose. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them, or have any ideas I can try. I thought about possibly sticking in a boot disc and trying a repair? I'll probably give that a go tonight. But yeah, im not sure what to do as Im a bit a noob so any help would be much appreciated.
