This build looks ok. The CPU, and the video card should work fine (I have a 9800GT myself). The motherboard looks like it would be fine, I can't see any part of it that looks incompatible.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yea, I wouldn't see why the CPU wouldn't work since it's the only i5 they sell as of now, and I believe it is the same as the i5 in the new iMacs. And good news on the video card. I'm particularly interested in the eSATA and firewire port on the board though, would those work out of the box? If not, would I be able to get a kext to work with it?

Thanks.

On my motherboard (which is an Intel P35, yours is a P55), the firewire works out of the box. As for eSATA, it should work, but I've had problems. In OS X 10.5, I could hot-swap eSATA drives, in 10.6 I cannot. eSATA drives will be mounted if the system is booted with them already on, but I cannot get them to act like USB drives (i.e. hot-swap). Other people say that eSATA hot-swap works fine for them, so that problem could just be my PC. For the video card, my 9800GT works with OpenCL, QE, and CI. I just use "GraphicsEnabler=yes" in Chameleon.

Ah, great news about the ports because I have a WD My Book Studio 2 that has a firewire and esata port. And as for the graphics card, you didn't have to install a driver or kext for it?

Edit: Also, who makes your card? Link? Thanks.

OS X has nVidia drivers built-in, you just need an enabler (or injector) to use them. This is the video card I have.

Ah, I see. Do they work just as well as on windows?

Also, I'd like to know if I can put a wireless card in it, and if it will work. I have a linksys wireless-g router and I'd like to be able to put a PCI wireless card in the box so I wouldn't have to run more cables. If it's possible, what would you recommend?

For Windows, you can get the Video Card drivers from Nvidia.com. As for wireless, I don't know much about OS X compatibility, sorry.

Well, I wasn't really asking where or how I could get drivers for windows, I was asking if the performance of the card under OSX was just as good as the performance under windows because I know that the ATI drivers for linux aren't nearly as good as the ones for windows.

Oh, sorry. Yeah, the 9800GT will work just fine in OS X. It supports Quartz Extreme, Core Image, and OpenCL. So, yeah, the performance will be the same as Windows.

Awesome. Also, I know what opencl is, but what do quartz extreme, and core imaging do?

Well, I'm still wondering about a PCI wireless card so if anyone has any advice on that, that would be great.

Edit: I've found this Geforce 9800 GTX+. Do you know how well the drivers in OSX work with it?

CI and QE are for 3D-graphics and stuff like that. The 9800GTX+ should work fine.

Alright. Well, I'm looking for information about PCI wireless cards and compatibility with OSX. I have a linksys wireless-g router, and I was looking to buy this PCI card:

Pretty much I'm just looking to see if it is compatible. If anyone has any help with that, it would be appreciated.

I found this thread when I was searching the forums, and if you read the post I linked to, it's not looking too good for the GTX+. I'm still looking to get something 9800 GT or higher. I'll probably just get this 9800 GT since the bestbuy near me carries it. I'm just wondering, since you have a 9800 GT, if you are running it on 10.6.2?

Update: Here's an updated list:

Changed the motherboard to the P55M-UD2 from gigabyte. Mainly did this because the audio and LAN chipset both have kexts under SL. And plus I'm only paying 15 bucks more for a new motherboard, not open box. Plus it's has more SATA ports, more USB ports, minus a eSATA port, and has S/PDIF too.

Switched back to the 9800 GTX+ since in the same thread there's been a post about it saying that it's because of outdated injectors and HDMI. I don't have HDMI, and I'm going to use the current version of the injectors for it. Plus, the bestbuy near me sells it, so if it doesn't work, I'll just return it and go with the 9800 GT.

Things I'm still trying to find out:

  • Will the wifi USB Network Adapter work in SL? If not, what would you recommend?

This is the last of my problems. I'm still unclear about SL support with wireless devices. Still need an answer. :/

Well, I've been looking around, and it looks like I'll be getting the ASUS WL-138g V2 Network Adapter. It works just an airport, and needs no drivers. I could not find the buffalo one you specified. Thanks.

I'm looking to build a Core i5 Hackintosh, and I've already picked out the parts, so now I'm looking to see if they are compatible. Here are the parts:

I wouldn't see why the Case, PS, or HDD wouldn't work, but you never know. So yea, I'm just looking to see if the mobo, and the other components are compatible with snow leopard. Thanks.

Hey, I've got a firewire and wireless N adapter for sell if you would like ; natively recognized under osx.
