hey guys.

I have this macbook 3.1 (late 2007) and i'm getting sick of the intel IGP. The early 2009 white model started shipping with an NVidia chip so i'm wondering if a logic board from that revision would be able to be stuffed into my machine.

"Why not just buy an early 2009 macbook!?," you say? well...call me a fashion whore, but i like my black case a bit too much and i hate the white ones with a passion.

so does anyone have CAD files of the logic board PCBs for the macbook line or some other record of their dimensional specs that i can compare?

any thoughts on compatibility issues? from what i can see the FSB is faster on the newer ones and they also have penryns instead of the merom chips from the earlier revisions which means dynamic FSB throttling. not sure how that factors into the equation. the cooling apparatus is probably a lot different as well.

also, from a software standpoint, is it too much to hope that i would be able to boot right up into my existing os x install?

thanks

I only opened and replaced logic boards in 15 and 17 inch MBP's but from what I experienced:

Forget it! It will not work.

Dimensions of the board is one thing, but there are also tons of connectors and cables which lead to different places depending on revision and the plugs are different too!

damn, I'm interested in converting my macbook to a more "airy" one :2cents:

Replace logic board, switch to ssd, ditch the cd/dvd, and replace the battery to a lighter one.

I wonder how much lighter it can be by removing everything unnecessary, maybe 0.5 kg? I've heard there is some metal plate under the logic board which is quite heavy as well.

I like the form factor, and mine is almost in mint condition after 3 years use.
